Brad Pitt got political at the Oscars after criticising the verdict of Donald Trumpâs impeachment trial.
During his emotional acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor, Pitt referenced the fact that the testimony of former national security adviser John Bolton was blocked.
âThey told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week,â he said.
Sharing the full story, not just the headlines
âIâm thinking maybe Quentin [Tarantino] does a movie about it,â he continued, adding: âIn the end, the adults do the right thing.â
Asked about his comments in the press room, Pitt said: âI was really disappointed with this week. I think when gamesmanship trumps doing the right thing, itâs a sad day, and I donât think we should let it slide. Iâm very serious about that.â

The actor beat out Anthony Hopkins (The Two Popes), Al Pacino, Joe Pesci (both for The Irishman) and Tom Hanks (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) to win his first ever acting Oscar for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
âThis is incredible,â the actor said, calling it an âhonour of honoursâ and praising Leonardo DiCaprio and Quentin Tarantino.
âOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood â ainât that the truth,â he said.
Pitt was referring to films Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Thelma & Louise, the 1991 film that marked his first big screen performance.
He praised his co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, saying: âIâll ride on your coattails any day, man â the viewâs fantastic.â
Earlier in the ceremony, an uncomfortable Pitt recoiled as actor-singer Janelle Monae, who performed the opening song, placed the microphone in front of his face.
For the second year running, the Oscars will have no presenter.
Nominations-wise, Joker leads this yearâs pack with 11, while The Irishman and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood follow close behind with 10.
