Rapper Dave and singer Capaldi lead BRIT Award nominations – Entertainment – The Jakarta Post

Rapper Dave and Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi lead the nominations for this year’s BRIT Awards with four nods each, in a new, slimmed-down list of prizes at Britain’s top pop music honors.

Both will contest the same categories at next month’s ceremony: male solo artist, best new artist, song of the year and Mastercard album of the year.

Dave is in the running for his single “Location” and the album Psychodrama, for which he won the Mercury Prize last year. Capaldi was nominated for his chart-topping track “Someone You Loved” and his album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.

Organizers have previously said this year’s show, the 40th in a series that began in 1977, will feature fewer categories, allowing for more music to be performed on the night.

They also said they would allow performing acts to “fully take the reins by encouraging them to create and curate performances unique to them”.

Grime star Stormzy is nominated for best male solo artist as well as for his song “Vossi Bop” and album Heavy Is the Head.

The nominees for male solo artist include Harry Styles, who first found fame in the boyband One Direction, and singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka. Both are also nominated for their albums Fine Line and Kiwanuka respectively.

Mabel is nominated for her song “Don’t Call Me Up”, and also in the best female solo artist and best new artist categories.

The other nominees for best female solo artist include singers Freya Ridings, FKA Twigs, Charli XCX and Mahalia.

Coldplay, Foals, Bastille, D-Block Europe snd Bring Me The Horizon will compete for group of the year.

The song of the year contenders also include Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s “I Don’t Care”, Calvin Harris and Rag’n’Bone Man’s “Giant”, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” by Mark Ronson and featuring Miley Cyrus, AJ Tracey’s “Ladbroke Grove”, Tom Walker’s “Just You and I” and “Dancing With A Stranger” by Sam Smith and Normani.

Competing to be best international male solo artist are Bruce Springsteen, Burna Boy, Post Malone, Dermot Kennedy and Tyler, the Creator.

Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, Lana Del Rey and Lizzo are in the running for best international female solo artist.

Singer Celeste has already been announced as the winner of the BRIT Rising Star award.

The award ceremony takes place in London on Feb. 18.

Harry ‘fast-tracked royal exit as he feared Meghan was on the brink’ | Entertainment Daily

Prince Harry reportedly ‘fast-tracked’ plans for him and Meghan Markle to quit senior roles in the royal family because ‘he was worried that she would have a meltdown’.

The couple announced last week that they were intending to take a step back from senior royal duties and live with financial independence.

Now reports claim that the shock news was rushed through because the Duke, 35, feared that his wife was ‘on the brink’.

It’s been said that the Duchess – who married Harry in 2018 – has found the ‘slow pace’ of Palace life ‘painful’ and that she has struggled to settle in the UK.

A source told The Sun: “The statement was rushed out and part of the reason for that is that Harry knew he needed to take swift action. Meghan has not settled in the UK and he knows that and wants her to be happy.”

The source added that Harry decided to move quickly during the couple’s six-week break in Canada over Christmas.

According to the insider, he feared that ‘staying in the UK for too long would lead to his wife having a meltdown’.

Ent Daily has contacted reps for Buckingham Palace for comment.

In October, the Sussexes filmed an ITV documentary, in which host Tom Bradby asked Meghan about life as a Duchess.

She told him: “It’s… it’s hard. You know? I don’t think anybody can understand that, but in all fairness I had no idea, which probably sounds difficult to understand here.

“But when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friend said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great, but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life’. And I very naively…

“I’m American, we don’t have that there. ‘What are you talking about, that doesn’t make any sense, I’m not in tabloids.

“I didn’t get it. So it’s, erm… yeah, it’s been complicated.”

A palace insider told the BBC that Harry’s older brother, Prince William, was ‘worried’ after seeing the documentary.

William, Harry, their father Prince Charles and the Queen are reportedly set to meet at Sandringham on Monday (13.1.20) for showdown talks in a bid to rescue the situation and alleviate the crisis.

‘Chucky’ TV Adaptation Scares Up Straight-to-Series Order at Syfy – Variety

Syfy has given out a straight-to-series order for a show based on the iconic horror character Chucky, the central figure in the “Child’s Play” film franchise. The cabler made the announcement at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Saturday.

The news comes just under a year after Syfy first announced they had acquired the television rights to the films. The series hails from Don Mancini, who wrote the film franchise on which the series is based. Mancini will also serve as showrunner and executive producer in addition to directing the first episode. David Kirschner and Nick Antosca will also executive produce, with Antosca producing via his Eat the Cat banner. Harley Peyton will also executive produce. Universal Content Productions (UCP) will serve as the studio. Antosca is currently under an overall deal at UCP.

“The character Don and David created has terrified audiences for over 30 years,” said Chris McCumber, president of Entertainment Networks USA & Syfy for NBCUniversal. “The longevity and legacy of Chucky speaks to the creative storytelling and the loyal fans the film series has collected over the years. We are excited to once again partner with Nick and UCP on this new Syfy series, and are incredibly proud to bring Chucky to television for the first time with the original creators.”

In the series, titled “Chucky,” after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Chucky debuted in 1988 in the film “Child’s Play,” directed and co-written by Tom Holland, produced by Kirschner and based on a story by Mancini. The franchise spawned six sequels, all of which Mancini wrote and Kirschner produced. Mancini also directed three of the films. A remake of “Child’s Play” from a completely new creative team was released in 2019.

Twitterati share screenshots of empty ‘Chhapaak’ shows, Deepika’s film rejected despite leak

Deepika Padukone’s movie Chhapaak failed at the Box Office on its opening day. The movie had an ordinary opening of Rs. 4.77 crore, while Ajay Devgn, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior minted Rs. 15.10 crore on its first day.

The reason behind Chhapaak’s Box Office opening failure is touted to be Deepika’s clear stand in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) violence. #DeepikaPRBackfires had been trending on Twitter for the same reason. Audiences shared screenshots of Chaapaak screens going empty from various places. Lucknow and Varanasi, especially, witnessed not many seats sold out.

More so, Deepika has been tagged as the villain and Twitterati have felt bad that Chhapaak, which was based on Laxmi Agarwal’s life, is not getting its due because of the producer Deepika’s step. Many memes were made, and a user went on to share a still from the leak of the film. More so, this Twitter user went on to state that despite the leak and having free access to the film, there is no desire to watch Chhapaak.

Take a look:

#Chapaak is a movie which had to concentrate on Acid Victim Female. But Deepika Padukone made sure that the movie is all about her now. It is cruel thing to the narrative of stopping Acid Throwers and how bad it affects the victim.

Deepika is a Villain being a heroine here.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Chhapaak is the story of acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The movie is also in troubled waters since it did not credit Laxmi’s lawyer Aparna Bhat even after promising her the credit. Delhi High Court has demanded the makers to give Aparna her credit in the movie and passed a restraining order on the movie which would be effective from January 15 for multiplexes and live streaming and for others from January 17.

Holy cone on a statue – Glasgow is to be transformed into Gotham City in the new Batman movie.

Scotland’s biggest city will play a starring role in Hollywood blockbuster The Batman, starring Twilight actor Robert Pattinson, 33, as the Caped Crusader.

The big-budget production will descend on the nation next month to shoot parts of the film on Glasgow’s streets.

Parts of the city will be made to look like Batman’s fictional home, giving residents a front-row seat for the movie.

Filming will also be the first opportunity for eagle-eyed DC Comics fans to catch a glimpse of the new Batmobile. Shooting for the film has already begun in London and filming is expected to start in Glasgow in late February.

A source said: “Glasgow will be turned into Gotham City and, with the city’s architecture, it’s expected to look great in the new film.

“It will also be the first time for DC fans to see the new Batmobile so there will be lots of them prepared to stand in the rain hoping they can spot it.

“Anyone who sees the Batmobile around town will probably look twice.”

Matt Reeves, best known for his work on the most recent Planet of the Apes sequels, has written and is directing the new film.

British star Pattinson–dubbed R-Pat by fans – is following in the footsteps of Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney as billionaire Bruce Wayne and his alter ego.

Irishman Colin Farrell has joined the cast as The Penguin, Zoe Kravitz has been cast as Catwoman, Paul Dano has been signed as The Riddler and Andy Serkis will play butler Alfred Pennyworth.

It’s not the first visit to Glasgow for a Hollywood blockbuster.

It was famously transformed into Philadelphia for post-apocalyptic zombie flick World War Z starring Brad Pitt in 2011.

George Square was the setting for the film’s dramatic crash scene, with extras dressed as US soldiers and zombies wandering the streets.

Last year, scenes for action thriller Fast and Furious 9 starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and Idris Elba were filmed in the city.

The Warner Bros film is expected to arrive in cinemas in June 2021.

Screen Scotland said: “Screen Scotland provides a confidential locations service to film and TV productions looking to film in Scotland. This means we are unable to comment on discussions about specific productions.”

Superhero franchise Avengers: Infinity War was filmed in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Highlands.

Filming for the £400million Marvel blockbuster boosted Scotland’s economy by around £10million and World War Z generated £3.3million in the 17 days it was filmed in Glasgow.

‘Chucky’ Gets Series Order At Syfy From Original Franchise Creators – Deadline

Chucky is coming to TV. Syfy has given a straight-to-series order to Chucky, a series revolving around the character at the center of the horror/slasher Child’s Play film series, the red-haired, freckled-faced doll possessed by the soul of notorious serial killer, Charles Lee Ray. The series order was announced Saturday during NBCUniversal’s presentation at the TCA Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, CA.

Your Complete Guide to Pilots and Straight-to-Series orders

The series, produced by Universal Content Productions, comes from the Chucky movie franchise creator/writer Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner as well as TV writer-producer Nick Antosca, creator of Syfy’s anthology series Channel Zero, and his studio-based Eat the Cat banner. Emmy-nominated Harley Peyton (Twin Peaks, Syfy’s Channel Zero) will also serve as executive producer. Mancini, who penned the film franchise, will write the adaptation, serve as showrunner and direct the first episode.

Syfy has been expanding the scope of its genre programming beyond sci-fi to other areas, including horror, most recently with the horror anthology series Channel Zero, created/executive produced by Antosca, on which Mancini served as writer-producer.

“The character Don and David created has terrified audiences for over 30 years. The longevity and legacy of Chucky speaks to the creative storytelling and the loyal fans the film series has collected over the years,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks – USA & Syfy. “We are excited to once again partner with Nick and UCP on this new Syfy series, and are incredibly proud to bring Chucky to television for the first time with the original creators.”

In the new Chucky television series, after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

The project had been in development at the network for over a year. “I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us,” Mancini said at the time. “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”

In 1988, Chucky slashed his way into the pop culture zeitgeist with the premiere of Child’s Play directed and co-written by Tom Holland, produced by Kirschner, and based on a story by Mancini. It spawned six sequels, all of which Mancini wrote and Kirschner produced. Mancini also directed three of the films in the franchise: Seed of Chucky (2004), Curse of Chucky (2013) and Cult of Chucky (2017).

Chucky joins Syfy’s lineup of originals including drama series Resident Alien, Wynonna Earp, Vagrant Queen, Van Helsing and The Magicians (premiering season 5 on January 15); late night animation block TZGZ; and fan-focused franchises produced in conjunction with Syfy Wire like Con After Dark.
