Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he hasn’t given his son Cristiano Jr a mobile phone yet because he doesn’t want him to become ‘obsessed with technology’ at an early age.
The footballer, 36, spoke about the impact of technology at the Al Wasl Plaza in Dubai after picking up the Globe Soccer’s Top Scorer of All Time award and admitted the younger generation have a greater affinity with gadgets.
He said: ‘Definitely it helps a lot. It helped me and the people here, all the world, and I think we have to take advantage of that but we shouldnât be obsessed with it.

‘For example, I can give you a small impression. My oldest child is going to be 12 years old soon and he asks me every time, “Daddy, can I have a phone, can I have a phone, can I have a phone.”
‘I say to him, “Cristiano, you have time.”
‘I know as well that this young generation are one step ahead of their age so I agree that we have to take advantage of that but not to be obsessed about technology.
‘Give them but with a period of time, not give them all the time. I think thatâs the main point here.’

In 2017, Ronaldo also refused his son’s requests for a phone, saying he did not want to give him the impression it was easy to get whatever he wanted.
At the time he said: ‘Junior is very happy and says he wants more brothers and sisters, he wants seven.
‘I ask him to wait for the future. One day, Junior asked me for an iPhone to call me but I told him no. If he wants to call me he should through his grandmother.
‘I want to transmit to my son the idea that it’s not easy getting anything he wants. Education is the best thing I could give him.’

Cristiano Jr, nicknamed Cristianinho, is turning 12 in June, and was born to an anonymous surrogate mum before his footballer dad met current partner Georgina Rodriguez.
Georgina is currently six month pregnant with Ronaldo’s twins and the couple revealed last month they are expecting a boy and a girl.
They made the announcement on social media with a heart-warming gender reveal video.
They encouraged their four children to pop balloons, which filled the room with pink and blue confetti.

The two boys shouted: ‘Itâs a boy’ and the two girls: ‘Itâs a girl’ after Georgina gave a 1-2-3 countdown and then cheered and laughed as they revealed the sexes of the unborn children.
Cristiano wrote along the footage which the couple posted at exactly the same time: ‘Where life begins and love never ends’ followed by heart emojis.
The video featured their three-year-old daughter Alana Martina and the footballerâs daughter Eva, also three, in pink pajamas to go with the pink confetti in the balloon they burst.
Evaâs twin Matteo and Cristiano Jr were in darker outfits to match the blue confetti that appeared when they burst theirs.
Georgina exclaimed: ‘Ole! How lovely!’ as she struggled to contain her emotions while the four kids played after revealing the exciting news.
And to make the video complete the pretty brunette had put the two girls by presents in pink wrapping paper beside the family Christmas tree at their Cheshire home.

In November, Georgina revealed that she is pregnant with twins, sharing a sweet snap from a scan with her and Cristiano’s four kids to Instagram.
The beauty looked radiant as she gazed at the camera during her scan as the children beamed in the background, and captioned the post: ‘Impacientes â€ïž â€ïž’ which translated means Impatient.
The professional football player also shared the happy news with fans on Instagram last month, and gushed their ‘hearts are full of love.’

Ronaldo, who will welcome his second and third child with Georgina wrote: ‘Delighted to announce we are expecting twins. Our hearts are full of love – we can’t wait to meet you.’
Ronaldo is spending the international break in Dubai with his family and was seen celebrating Georginaâs birthday at the Worldâs tallest building Burj Khalifa.
He spent thousands of pounds to light up the Dubai skyline with a ‘happy birthday’ message to his partner.
The landmark tower changed colour before ending with the message ‘Happy Birthday Gio’ in giant white letters above a photo of the stunning Spaniard in a glamorous off-the-shoulder black dress.
Ronaldo’s partner took to Instagram to share the footage, saying:Â ‘This is how this exciting day ends. I’m speechless. Thank you, thank you and thank you @cristiano. You can’t make me happier every day.’
