Do you feel like you need a laugh? Then tune in this Friday at 1 p.m. PT ( 4 p.m. ET and 9 p.m. BST) on Facebook and YouTube for “Humor in the Age of a Pandemic” — a BahaiTeachings Live program featuring comedian Omid Djalili and “wannabe comedian” Shahin Sobhani.
In a time of so much pain and panic worldwide, Baha’is believe that laughter is needed to relax and uplift our spirits. Abdu’l-Baha, the son of the prophet and founder of the Baha’i Faith, wrote: “Laughter is caused by the slackening or relaxation of the nerves. It is an ideal condition and not physical. Laughter is the visible effect of an invisible cause. For example, happiness and misery are super-sensuous phenomena. One cannot hear them with the ears or touch them with his hands. Happiness is a spiritual state.”
So, Omid and Shahin, along with our host Liz Dwyer, the managing editor of Bahaiteachings.org, will chat about life during the pandemic, what role humor can play in difficult times, and how Omid is finding new and creative ways to annoy his family while in isolation.
Omid Djaili is an actor, writer, producer, and multi-award-winning stand-up comedian. He has also starred in several films, including the smash hit “Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again,” the Oscar-nominated movie “Shaun the Sheep,” and the Oscar-winning film “Gladiator.”
Although Shahin Sobhani isn’t an artist himself, he is a big supporter of the arts. He is the executive producer of 239days.com, associate producer of the 2010 film “The Infidel,” and executive producer of the upcoming film “Guidance.”
As always, the program will feature a musical guest — this week we’re thrilled that Los Angeles based singer-songwriter Tara Ellis will bring her talents to the program. See you all on Friday on Facebook and YouTube!
