Meghan says changes would’ve been made if Kate Middleton was being bashed in the press | Daily Mail Online

Meghan Markle has told friends that  if Kate Middleton was constantly being criticized by the press, the royal family would have stepped in and changed its media policies and shunned the tabloids, an insider exclusively told DailyMail.com.

‘[Meghan said] no one would have put up with it, and the broken and outdated system would have been revised. Those outlets responsible for their vicious attacks would have been shut out,’ the friend explained.

The Duchess, 37, firmly believes if the tables were turned and her sister-in-law had been subject to the same treatment, ‘changes would have been made’.

Last week the Sussexes announced they would have ‘no corroboration and zero engagement’ with four UK tabloids, including the Daily Mail, citing Meghan’s poor treatment.

Although palace aides said everyone was stunned by the move, the friend said: ‘Meghan said no one in the royal family should be surprised with the announcement.

She said everyone knew exactly how Harry felt about the British tabloids and the changes he wanted made in order to ‘If Kate was being criticized no one would put up with it.’ Bitter Meghan tells friends the palace favored her sister-in-law and would have attacked the UK tabloids if she were the one relentlessly picked on to protect his family.’

They added: ‘Meghan said Harry needed to take a stand for her, their son and his mother.’

The friend said: ‘Meghan said Harry needed to take a stand for her, their son and his mother’

The insider explained what ‘irritated Meghan and Harry the most’ was if the press had ‘constantly criticized and needlessly bashed Kate the way they did her, changes within the royal’s media policy would have been made. No questions asked.’

Harry went to his father Prince Charles and his grandmother the Queen ‘constantly’ about Meghan being bullied, but they ‘wouldn’t do anything to change the protocol’, despite seeing ‘how it was tearing him apart,’ according to the source.

‘[Meghan] said it was infuriating that Harry’s very real and valid concerns fell on deaf ears,’ the source said.

‘Meghan said they made it seem like this is the way it is, deal with it. Harry had been dealing with it far too long. She said he wasn’t going to let this destroy her life and their marriage.’

In January, Meghan and Harry stunned the world when they announced they would be quitting their royal duties, become financially independent and split their time between North America and England.

The friend explained: ‘Meghan said when she was living in England, she was being bullied by the media non-stop and Harry knew he had to do something dramatic to protect her and the family.

‘She said she was being treated unfairly and picked on for everything she did including rubbing her belly too much when she was pregnant.’

She said she was being treated unfairly and picked on for everything she did including rubbing her belly too much when she was pregnant’

‘She said there was no way she was going to go through motherhood being criticized for every little thing she did,’ the friend continued.

‘She said she told Harry that it was only going to get worse, It was a no win situation and the only solution was to take control of their own lives.

‘Harry needed to take a stand for her, their son and his mother.

‘Meghan said Harry made it crystal clear that they could not function in good faith under the current system… and that if it wasn’t revised and updated to their liking, they would have no other choice than to break from the royal family.

‘She said no one took his pleas seriously, so they had to take the issue into their own hands. This was about protecting the family and doing right by Princess Diana.

‘She said the British tabloids have haunted Harry since childhood and should have been kicked out of the media pool long ago.

‘The system is broken and Harry wanted to fix it. She said he needed to take a stand and now they are doing it together.’

After announcing their decision to step back from their royal duties, Meghan and Harry set up base at a rented waterfront mansion on Vancouver Island in Canada.

However, they quickly moved to Los Angeles last month when Canada announced it would be closing its borders to the US.

Over Easter weekend, the royal couple were seen volunteering with Project Angel Food, dropping off food to LA locals who are critically ill and are at a greater risk amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

A source said they both were down to earth and Meghan told her inner circle that it felt good to finally be out and about connecting with people.

‘Meghan and Harry were really down-to-earth. Meghan had been looking for an organization to get behind and says Project Angel Food is the perfect fit. She plans on volunteering much more with Harry,’ the friend said.

They went under-the-radar in dressed down clothes while delivering meals to 20 people, seen in exclusive DailyMail.com photos waving to a man after handing over bags of food.

The source added: ‘Some people didn’t recognize them at first and others were just completely shocked. One elderly woman actually started to cry and said she had always been a fan and had always wanted to meet them, and then welcomed them to their new life in America.’

Earlier this week, it was revealed Meghan Markle branded her father Thomas Markle a liar in court papers and denied she knew her influential friends planned to reveal details of her deteriorating relationship with him to People magazine.

Text messages revealed in new court documents claim Meghan and Harry tried to protect Thomas Markle in the days leading up to their wedding while he was forced to drop out of the lavish Windsor Castle wedding due to his failing health.

Meghan also states Thomas Markle did not answer truthfully when asked if had colluded with a photographer to stage pictures of him in the weeks leading up to the May 2018 ceremony.

She also maintains she was unaware that five close friends had chosen to intervene in the growing public debate about her relationship with her father by giving interviews to People magazine for an article published in February 2019.

The couple confirm the news

A spokesperson for Meghan and Harry confirmed to The Sunday Times: “You can expect to see him.”

The adorable image showed Harry holding his son, who looked cute in a bobble hat and winter coat.

The family have been living in Los Angeles since stepping back from their senior royal roles on March 31.

The couple announced their decision back in January, explaining they want to become “financially independent”.

The couple married at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May 2018 and the ceremony was broadcast to millions across the world.

However, Meghan and Harry already want to renew vows in an “intimate, barefoot” ceremony in America.

A source has told Heat magazine: “This will symbolise a brand-new start for them both practically and spiritually.

“They both love the idea of an intimate, barefoot ceremony overlooking the ocean – a little like Meghan’s first wedding [to Trevor Engleson], but without all the fanfare and partying.

“Of course, it risks upsetting the royals, but this fresh start is important to both of them.”

Crowded House Performs a Wonderful Live Version of Their Hit Song ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ While at Home

Don’t dream it’s over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won’t win

Neil Finn and Crowded House, which includes Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom, Liam Finn, and Elroy Finn performed a an incredible rendition of the band’s 1986 hit “Don’t Dream It’s Over” from various locations at their homes. Liam and Seymour performed in their pajamas, as if to stress the “at home” part.

The band had a dual reason for performing this particular song, first being their participation in the Australian/New Zealand benefit concert “Music From The Home Front“. The second being the 33rd anniversary of the song reaching the number two position in the United States. The song was also part of Neil Finn’s daily Fangradio audio stream on Mixlr.

On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of Crowded House reaching #2 in the American charts, I’d like to post this video of us performing individually from home a version of Don’t Dream It’s Over. We recorded it over a few hours between continents day before yesterday. It was for the “Music From The Front Line” benefit concert in Australia / NZ. I really like the way it sounds and the process of flying tapes back and forth was fun… pure and simple… hope you enjoy too.

Live orchestral concerts to begin again – Berlin Philharmonic schedules first… – Classic FM

Live orchestral concerts to begin again – Berlin Phil schedules first post-lockdown performance for this Friday

    27 April 2020, 12:48 | Updated: 27 April 2020, 14:33

    By Kyle Macdonald

The legendary orchestra and chief conductor Kirill Petrenko will perform Arvo Pärt and Mahler in the resumption of music at the Berlin Philharmonie.

Across the world, measures to slow the spread of coronavirus have meant an abrupt halt to live music performances and in-person gatherings of musicians. Music festivals and concert performances have been cancelled as musicians have stayed at home.

It has been a time of striking solidarity and inventiveness in music, as players have created thousands of social distanced live performances and collaborations from their individual quarantine. However, as part of Europe has flattened the curve of COVID-19 cases, some governments have eased social distancing guidelines, allowing people to once again gather and make music together.

Click here for the latest coronavirus advice from the NHS >

Public performances by the Berlin Philharmonic were suspended from 11 March as the German capital entered lockdown. But now it has been announced that Friday 1 May will make a significant moment, as members will come together on stage again and play as an orchestra for the first time in weeks.

Friday’s concert will strictly adhere to current social distancing guidelines in Germany, with players forming a chamber orchestra, spaced apart from one another on stage. The programme includes Arvo Pärt’s Fratres, music by Ligeti, Barber’s Adagio for Strings and a chamber version of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with soprano Christiane Karg.

There will be no audience present in the Philharmonie, but the performances will be live-streamed for free via the orchestra’s Digital Concert Hall.

On 15 April, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced plans to ease restrictions brought in to tackle the pandemic, amid signs the spread was slowing.

The orchestra said “In light of the coronavirus crisis, it was hardly to be expected that the Berlin Philharmonic’s European Concert would take place at all this year. But now the concert will still happen – in a different form. Instead of a planned guest appearance in Tel Aviv, the Berlin Phil will perform in the empty Philharmonie in chamber orchestra formation, under strict health guidelines.”

Lockdown, isolation and social distancing has been difficult for everyone, and this is just another step on a long journey. But this concert is a moment when, ever so slowly, we’re coming together again. And the music will sound so good because of it.

Watch the Doobie Brothers Perform ‘Black Water’ In Isolation – Rolling Stone

The Doobie Brothers have come together virtually to perform 1974’s “Black Water.”

“We knew we would want to share something with others out there who are in isolation just like we are,” says Patrick Simmons, who wrote the song and sings lead on it. “We are so grateful to our fans who contributed to the performance and our families who helped with the production.

The Doobies formed 50 years and planned on celebrating that landmark anniversary with a special summer tour featuring Michael McDonald, who hasn’t been on the road with the band since 1995. They are also being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That ceremony was originally booked for May 2nd at Cleveland’s Public Hall but has been pushed back to November 7th because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The reunion tour is supposed to kick off June 9th in West Palm Beach, Florida, and wrap up October 17th in Memphis, Tennessee. No dates have been postponed as of yet, but the pandemic may force them to bump back at least some of them.

When we spoke to McDonald earlier this year, he was eagerly awaiting the tour. “I’ll sing the songs that I sing and then just do backgrounds,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to that. I’m looking forward to having less responsibility as a lead singer [than] I do with my band.”

As fans wait to hear the fate of the tour, they can at least enjoy this new rendition of “Black Water.”

“Sending out warm wishes to all of our friends,” Simmons says. “Thanks to all the angels of mercy who have stepped up to lessen the impact that the Covid-19 virus has had on so many lives. We are partnering with Feeding America for our presentation, and would be thankful to anyone who could make a donation to help our neighbors in need during this crucial time.”

Extraction Director Explains Why It Has Such An Ambiguous Ending – UNILAD

Extraction Director Explains Why It Has Such An Ambiguous Ending

    by : Julia Banim on : 27 Apr 2020 19:08

    Warning: Contains Spoilers

Extraction Director Explains Why It Has Such An Ambiguous EndingExtraction Director Explains Why It Has Such An Ambiguous EndingNetflix

Movie lovers have been left enthralled by Extraction, a high-octane thriller full of tense moments and heart-pounding action sequences.

Directed by Sam Hargrave, with a screenplay from Joe Russo, Extraction follows mercenary Tyler Rake, played by Chris Hemsworth, on his quest to rescue a crime lord’s kidnapped son in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

An adrenaline ride from start to finish, viewers have been on the edge on their seats, nails nibbled down to the quick. However, many have also been left puzzled as to why the ending was left so very, very ambiguous.

If you haven’t yet seen Extraction, it’s probably best to stop reading at this point and head over to Netflix to see what all the fuss is about for yourself.

However, those who have seen it right through to the – slightly perplexing – end will recall how the movie ends on somewhat of a shocking and open-ended twist.

In the final few scenes, a young antagonist shot an already injured Rake through the throat, leading to him tumbling over the railing of a bridge, down to the waters beneath.

However, just when you think the seemingly indestructible Rake has finally met his maker, a mystery figure arrives in the closing moments of the film. The figure appears to be keeping an eye on the teenage kidnap survivor, Ovi; watching as he dives into a pool.

It appears that the movie’s ending has left things open for Rake to make a return, with this uncertain presence suggesting there is still more to tell with this story.

And the ambiguity certainly hasn’t been lost on the viewers, with many pondering whether or not this means we’re in for a sequel.

    One fan tweeted:

I watched the movie Extraction last night and it was AWESOME. The ending was crazy on that bridge but also who was that person at the end of the pool? Was it Tyler? There has to be a sequel!

    Another said:

Must watch for action lovers. The ending was lil bit confusing. Tyler is alive WTF??

Now Hargrave and Hemsworth have spoken with Cinemablend about the choice to leave the denouement deliberately open-ended.

    Hemsworth explained:

The idea to keep it sort of ambiguous based on different audience responses and testings and so on about they believed would have happened or what they wanted to happen. And we shot a few different versions of the ending just as a sort of a back-up.

I’m thankful for that, that Sam [Hargrave] insisted on doing that, just to cover all bases.

Chris Hemsworth in ExtractionChris Hemsworth in ExtractionNetflix

Because there was a split reaction amongst audiences, we tried to satisfy both sides. So hopefully if you as an audience member loved the character, want to see more, then you will see one result of that final image. You’ll see Tyler there.

If you felt like his story is completed through sacrifice, you might see someone different standing there.

So hopefully it was satisfying, even though people might have a question, but maybe they get to talking and talking to their friends and say, ‘hey, go see this movie because I want to talk to you about the end’. It was purposefully ambiguous.

An interesting approach indeed, and you have to admit, that ending – no matter how frustrated it may have left you – has definitely got people talking.

You can catch Extraction on Netflix now.

‘The Goonies’ Cast Reunites; Steven Spielberg Talks Sequel – Deadline

Goonies never say die! It’s been 35 years since the Richard Donner-directed adventure pic The Goonies was released and became a benchmark in pop culture and served as a touchstone for the childhood of many. As episode one the series “Reunite Apart” with Josh Gad, which helps raise funds for a charity in each episode.

The first episode raised funds for the Center for Disaster Philanthropy to support their COVID-19 Response Fund. Gad welcomed the main cast including Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Ke Huy Quan, Martha Plimpton and Kerri Green. They reminisced about filming the movie and they also welcomed surprise guests throughout the reunion.

Joe Pantoliano and Robert Davi who played the villainous Fratelli brothers popped up during the conversation as well as writer Chris Columbus, executive producer Steven Spielberg and director Richard Donner. Cyndi Lauper, who wrote the movie’s memorable track “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough”, also made a cameo.

The cast reenacted scenes from the movie which Columbus joked they performed better now than they did then. They also shared behind-the-scenes stories and footage from the movie. And then the topic of a sequel came up (not to be confused with the forthcoming Fox pilot).

“Chris, Dick and I — and Lauren [Shuler Donner] — have had a lot of conversations about it,” said Spielberg. “Every couple of years we come up with an idea but then it doesn’t hold water.”

He continued to say that the cast and crew raised the bar on this genre so high that they weren’t able to find an idea that is better than The Goonies they made in the ’80s. He added, “Until we do, people are just going to have to look at this [livestream] a hundred times!”

Donner chimed in jokingly, “How are you going to find seven miserable kids like this again that are new and fresh?”

It all ended with the cast giving love to the first responders in the COVID-19 cirsis and they all participated in a sing-along to “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough” before a title card popped up dedicating the livestream it to cast members John Matuszak, Anne Ramsey, Keith Wlaker, Mary Ellen Trainor and Lupe Ontiveros who have all passed.

    Watch the full reunion below.
