Interview With God Dethroned – MHF

Interview With God Dethroned

By Chelf

An important part of the Dutch black metal scene, God Dethroned originally formed as a death metal band. When they reformed in 1996, they switched to blackened death metal and stayed that way until the release of Into the Lungs of Hell, when they shifted to melodic death metal. Continually getting high ranks in the metal charts these guys sure know what they are doing. On February 7th, they will release their new full-length, Illuminati, album via Metal Blade Records their most varied material to date. With a cover by Polish master Michał ‘Xaay’ Loranc (Nile, Evocation), Illuminati is conversant in the tenets of death metal – experimental where it needs to be, and indomitable in spirit. It’s the kind of album that will bestow the Dutch heroes with accolades and push them across Europe and then the rest of the globe throughout 2020. Song titles like ‘Spirit of Beelzebub’, ‘Broken Halo’, ‘Book of Lies’ and ‘Satan Spawn’ leave very little to the imagination as to what to expect from the band from a lyrical point of view.

But we do have other kinds of questions. Lots and lots of questions.

Hi Henri.

Yeah, it’s a bit of both I think. When death metal became popular by the end of the ’80s, there was not much else. You had heavy metal, you had thrash metal, speed metal, maybe black was already there but since then so many sub-genres of metal came about. Female-fronted bands, deathcore, there are a lot of new hypes coming fast, going away fast but it means that there’s so much content so many bands having releases. And everybody knows that the sales are dropping nowadays, there are streams which is a great thing of course but it has become a great battle, to stay alive between everything else that’s out there. And death metal has become just one of the subgenres of metal, and it’s not as popular today as it was back in the day. So when we had a break in 2012 until 2015, we came back and of course, people still remember us and we still could do a lot of shows and a lot of festivals but it’s more difficult to fight for your space, to get a spot on a festival. It’s not so easy anymore even if you are an established name, in the metal scene.

It’s not so easy anymore even if you are an established name, in the metal scene.

Well, the first negative thing I have to say is that your house becomes a mess.  Guitars everywhere, cables everywhere, you can’t live properly for a couple of months. Then you do nothing else than record and play guitar and sing.

So there’s no proper time to cook food. So you end up having lots of junk food.

One of the main advantages is that you don’t have time pressure. At least not as much as in a studio. But you should not forget to finish the task at a reasonable timeframe. But Metal Blade always gives us a deadline so we don’t have unlimited time and that’s a good thing. But to be able to put so many details in music, as we did with this album you need to work without time pressure.  When I play my guitar I know exactly what I’m doing but when I’m doing special things with vocals and keyboards I have to experiment and figure out what’s best. To do that in the studio would be so expensive! Then you would have to decide not to do it at all or make very quick decisions. And we needed a lot of money for the videos so this helped us to divide the money a little bit better.

Yeah! I kept the ring that I’m wearing! I also get to keep some of the props because we made a lot of stuff for the video like the caskets and the capes. It’s nice to have something! We also used the same items for the second video and there will be a third one as well. This one will be more like a band video because the first two were like short movies. If you want to get a lot of viewers you need to promote, you need to advertise. And that goes through Google. So the downside here is that there so much violence in those videos that we can’t advertise that. So we need to make a proper band video that we can promote and that leads to more views and more exposure for the other videos as well.

Thank you so much, Henri!

Thank you for a really nice interview!

Dame Julie Walters reveals she’s been given the all-clear after battle with stage 3 bowel cancer | Entertainment Daily

Dame Julie Walters was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer in 2018.

The 69-year-old actress – who was diagnosed with the disease 18 months ago – has now been given the all-clear after undergoing chemotherapy, but Julie initially thought doctors “must have made a mistake”.

Recalling her diagnosis, the award-winning star – who initially visited the doctor with indigestion and “slight discomfort” – told the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire: “I was still thinking, ‘That’s ridiculous, he must have made a mistake’. I couldn’t believe it.”

Doctors actually discovered two primary tumours in her large intestine.

The actress – who had “30cm taken out” of her colon during surgery – confessed to thinking: “I may not come round from the anaesthetic.”

Julie also revealed the surgery left her feeling “exhausted” and “a bit low” in the days after she went under the knife.

She said: “I said to the night nurse, ‘Is Love Island on?’ – because we were talking about it – and we watched it together. It was only a couple of days later I thought, I feel exhausted, and a bit low actually.”

The Educating Rita star subsequently went through chemotherapy, and is now “clear” of cancer.

Julie shared: “I’ve just had a scan, and I know that [I’m] clear.”

Pete Edochie: Nigerian men who kneel to propose are fools

Veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, has kicked against the idea of Nigerian men getting down on their knees to ask women to marry them.

In a video circulated on social media on Thursday, the 72-year-old actor could be heard saying, “Any young man who gets on his knees to propose to a girl, is not just an idiot, he’s a bloody fool, a compound buffoon”.

The revered actor said in the video that the act is a replication of the foreign culture that translates to the woman taking over the family.

“We are trying to copy white people, right? I believe in the sacrosanctity of our culture, the essence and the core of our culture,” he said.

“The white man kneels down to propose to a girl, you know what it means? The girl takes over the family. This is why whenever you disagree with your wife overseas, you are kicked out and the wife takes the house. As a young man, you should be in charge of your destiny. Kneeling down for a woman makes you a fool”.

The ‘Lionheart’ star also said he does not believe the practice signifies love or civilisation.

“I have lived with my wife for 51 years, nobody has come to say ‘please stop beating this woman’. Is it hatred that united us?” he asked his interviewer.

The actor joked that men who insist on going on their knees to pop the question, risk being kicked out of the house by their wives.

“Kneel down before your wife and I’ll sympathise with you when she takes over the home,” he said.

This is not the first time the actor would court controversy over comments around marriage and relationships.

He made similar comments in Igbo language in January 2020, saying: “A marriage is recognised when a woman offers her future husband wine on her knees, signifying his authority. Therefore, the wife should kneel before her husband and not the other way round.”

He is married to his childhood sweetheart, Josephine and they are blessed with six children. They have been married for more than 51 years and their union is said to be the longest in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

They were both broadcasters and parents to six children. Their sons, Linc and Yul, are both in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

She’s Back! Adele Says Fans Can Expect a New Album in September, 5 Years After She Released 25

Will Adele fans soon be saying hello from the other side of a new music drought?

While performing at her best friend’s wedding over the weekend, the 31-year-old singer told friends to “expect my album in September,” in Instagram videos of the night.

The Grammy winner hasn’t released new music since 2015’s 25, which featured singles like “Hello” and “Send My Love (To Your New Lover).”

The album, her third studio release, earned Adele five Grammys in 2017, including Album of the Year.

In her acceptance speech for that award, the songstress gave a shoutout to her fellow nominee, Beyoncé.

“My artist of my life is Beyoncé, and this album to me, the Lemonade album, was just so monumental,” Adele said tearfully from the stage.

Adele went on a bit of a hiatus since then, but has been making headlines recently for her significant weight loss.

“She looked like herself but also so different — beautiful but almost unrecognizable,” a source told PEOPLE of Adele’s appearance at an Oscars afterparty.

The singer told a fan while she was vacationing in Anguilla with Harry Styles and James Corden that she lost 100 lbs., PEOPLE previously reported.

Another source told PEOPLE that the musician has been following a strict diet and fitness routine — but it’s not all about the physical change for the mother of one.

“It’s easy to just focus on her physical transformation, but this is really about something bigger,” an insider said. “She got to the point where she didn’t feel great. She knew she had to change something because she wants to be the healthiest mom possible.”

“Her whole focus during the weight loss journey has really how been all about how she can be healthier and how can she treat her body better,” the insider said. “It was never about losing weight. Her weight loss happened because she has cut down drinking and is eating more real food. But she now loves her physical transformation too. She is more confident, dresses differently and she just seems happier overall.”

Adele shares 7-year-old son Angelo with ex-husband Simon Konecki.

The couple split last year after getting married in 2016.

Actress Says She Won’t Raise Child With ‘Mighty Ducks’ Star in US Because of White Supremacy

A pregnant Hollywood actress declared in a recent interview that she would not raise her children in the United States because of “overt” white supremacy.

Jodie Turner-Smith, 33, spoke to the Sunday Times in an interview published late last month about the plans she and fellow actor Joshua Jackson, 41, have for their family.

“The racial dynamics over here are fraught. White supremacy is overt. It’s the reason I don’t want to raise my kids here,” she told the British outlet.

“I don’t want my kids to grow up doing active shooter drills at school,” the “Queen & Slim” star added.

Turner-Smith was born in Peterborough, England and moved to the U.S. after her parents’ divorce.

Jackson, known for his roles in teen TV drama “Dawson’s Creek” and the “Mighty Ducks” films series, was born in Canada but lived in California until the age of 8. He holds dual U.S.-Canadian citizenship.

During her conversation with the Sunday Times, Turner-Smith, who is black, said she was “really excited when I came to America about meeting black people.”

However, she was disappointed with her experience, saying black people in America criticized her for talking “like a white girl” and labeled her an “Oreo.”

“All I wanted was acceptance,” she told the Sunday Times.

Turner-Smith said she and her partner are considering raising their children in Canada. Her native Britain is not an option.

“England has gone off the rails,” she said.

Turner-Smith also revealed that some people in the black community were upset about her relationship with Jackson, who is white.

“There was this wave of people who were upset that I was possibly married to a white man,” Turner-Smith said. “Certain people feel strongly against [interracial dating or marriage] in both communities.”
