A Salute To The Black Female Leads Of 2019 Films – Blackfilm – Black Movies, Television, and Theatre News

Having written a Black Female Leads article a year ago, I felt I should do this annually so folks can see who are the faces of tomorrow, the breakouts of the year, who’s finally being noticed and how often one is getting work in this position.

There is still a lot of work to be done. Oscar winner Viola Davis, after becoming the first African-American to win an Emmy for best actress in a drama in 2015, stated, “The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity.”

Among the 2019 highlights

Although she didn’t have a lead role in Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk, the year started off great when Regina King won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance. With a lead role in Netflix’s Seven Seconds, which she won an Emmy for and a lead role in this year’s Watchmen for HBO, here’s hoping she can land a major role on the big screen when she’s on hiatus from her TV projects.

Marketing is the key when discussing Black female leads and some are starting to be recognized for major awards. A year ago, Regina Hall was the first Black woman to win Best Actress from the New York Film Critics Circle in it 83-year history for her role in Support The Girls. Although, she didn’t receive an Oscar nomination, it was still a huge win from this prestigious group. This year, the group has awarded Lupita Nyong’o that honor for her performance in Jordan Peele’s Us. She’s also racked Best Actress wins from other critics organizations. Along with a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nomination, there’s a good chance Nyong’o may land an Oscar nomination.

Cynthia Erivo is also getting notice for her leading role in Kasi Lemmons’ Harriet. She also received a Screen Actors Guild nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture. Not only are Nyong’o and Erivo the 5th & 6th Black actresses ever to be nominated in this category, it’s also the first time 2 Black women have been in this category in the same year.

So far, in the Academy Awards’ 91 year history, Halle Berry (2001) is the ONLY Black woman to have won an Oscar for Best Actress out of the 11 Black women ever nominated. That’s 11 out of 455 in total. Neither of these women have been nominated again in this category, while Viola Davis has received two Supporting Actress nods and won for Fences in 2016.

At the age of 13 and the star of Tina Gordon’s Little, Marsai Martin became executive producer of the film, making her the youngest person in Hollywood to ever produce a movie.

While it may not be reflected at year’s end when many critics groups and other organizations are recognizing the works of many, but from the various festivals around the world to theatrical releases and streaming platforms, there were at least 30 or more films that featured Black actresses in lead roles in 2019.

Here’s a list of Black actresses who had lead roles in 2019, from films that were released in theaters to films that played in festivals; as well as films were streamed online.

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 19, 2019 — In October 1958, 13-year-old wunderkind Brenda Lee entered the recording studio to record a new song by Johnny Marks, the songwriter behind “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” called “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” that her and her producer, Owen Bradley, felt had a lot of potential. Lee, who had already earned the nickname, “Little Dynamite,” belted out the lyrics, “Rockin’ around the Christmas tree/At the Christmas party hop/Mistletoe hung where you can see/Every couple tries to stop” while the band rocked on around her and created one of the biggest, most indelible, holiday songs of all time. “It was just one of those magical moments in the studio when everything came together,” Lee remembered. “The sax solo, the little guitar lick that’s in there. Everything just sort of fell into place.”

For the first time, all 18 of Brenda Lee’s Christmas recordings she recorded for Decca Records in the ‘50s and ‘60s are now available on vinyl on 'Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree: The Decca Christmas Recordings (Decca/MCA Nashville/UMe).' Originally released in 1999 on CD, the new vinyl edition commemorates the compilation’s 20th anniversary and is available on standard weight black vinyl.

Surprisingly, when originally released the following month as her second Christmas single, backed with the Cajun-flavored holiday tune, “Papa Noel,” the song failed to make a dent in the charts. It was déjà vu all over again the following year too, but in 1960 when Lee’s teenage anthem of unrequited love, “I’m Sorry,” became a #1 smash hit, Decca Records reissued “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” and the song turned into a #14 hit. Over the last six decades the timeless song has become a perennial holiday favorite around the globe with continual airplay and streaming and has sold more than 36 million copies with the 5th most digital downloads sold of any Christmas single. It has been featured in several movies including an iconic scene in the hit movie, “Home Alone.” Since 2014 “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” has returned annually to the Billboard Hot 100 chart and last year as it turned 60, it reached an all-time chart peak of #9 during the holiday season.

Originally released in 1999 on CD, the new vinyl edition commemorates the compilation’s 20th anniversary and is available on standard weight black vinyl. The collection includes her first holiday single “Christy Christmas,” and the twangy b-side “I’m Gonna Lasso Santa Claus,” from her very first recording session when she was just 11 years old as well as every song from her 1964 full-length holiday album, Merry Christmas From Brenda Lee, which has been out-of-print on vinyl for more than three decades. It includes her inspired takes on holiday hits, “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” “Silver Bells,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Blue Christmas,” “A Marshmallow World,” and “Frosty The Snowman.” Other highlights include the orchestral “This Time Of Year,” the melancholy ballad “Christmas Will Be Just Another Lonely Day,” and longtime fan favorite “The Angel and The Little Blue Bell.” The vinyl release also boasts three tracks originally only available on the Japanese release of her 1964 album which are all making their U.S. vinyl debut: “White Christmas,” “Silent Night” and “Jingle Bells.”

In conjunction with the album’s release, UMe, the global catalog company of Universal Music Group, has created a delightful animated video for “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree,” giving the song its first-ever official video. Created by Ingenuity Studios and inspired by the style of vintage UPA cartoons of the 1950s and ’60s, the video features a merry trio of musicians as they perform throughout town and encounter scenes from popular holiday movies. The resulting video happily smashes the nostalgia button for modern viewers with its clever Easter eggs, in a stylized treatment that looks as though it could have been released when the song debuted in 1958. Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/DSHGd4lmLd4

“When I recorded ‘Rockin” in 1958, I never could have dreamt that it would become a Christmas standard that would be listened to year after year and loved by generation after generation,” says Brenda Lee. “I always loved the song and knew it was great, and that was the main criteria for me and Owen, but we never imagined it would become the quintessential Christmas song it has become, it’s been an amazing journey with this song. I thought ‘Home Alone’ was a pretty darn good video so I never brought up the idea of a video but I’m honored that Universal has created ‘Rockin”s first-ever video.”

To celebrate the vinyl release of Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree: The Decca Christmas Recordings and usher in the holiday season, Brenda Lee will be signing copies of the album at a special in-store event at Madame Tussauds in her hometown Nashville this Saturday, November 23rd. Nov 05, 2019, 11:00 ET

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 5, 2019 — The complete solo album catalog of one of the most iconic figures in British rock is coming to vinyl. Mick Jagger’s four studio records in his own name, issued between 1985 and 2001, will be released as heavyweight 180-gram black vinyl editions on December 6.

The albums are She’s The Boss (1985), Primitive Cool (1987), Wandering Spirit (1993) and Goddess In The Doorway (2001).

Mick Jagger Solo Album Catalog Comes To 180-Gram, Half-Speed Remastered Vinyl To Be Released On December 6
Mick Jagger Solo Album Catalog Comes To 180-Gram, Half-Speed Remastered Vinyl To Be Released On December 6

The quartet of albums amply demonstrate the creative reach of the Rolling Stones frontman as an artist in his own right. Jagger’s solo work shows the broad artistic palette that has influenced countless subsequent rock frontmen. To borrow one of their titles, they’re a timely reminder of what a wandering creative spirit he continues to be.

The albums have been newly remastered from analogue tape transfers* via the revolutionary Half-Speed Mastering system, by celebrated engineer Miles Showell at London’s Abbey Road Studios. This high audio definition remastering treatment, which creates the finest audio quality vinyl pressings available, was recently used for all the albums in the acclaimed boxed set The Rolling Stones Studio Albums Vinyl Collection 1971 – 2016. The Jagger albums all feature printed inner bags with lyrics.

Jagger released various projects in his own name earlier in his unparalleled career, but after his cameo on the Jacksons’ 1984 single “State Of Shock,” it was 1985’s She’s The Boss that officially opened his solo album account. Recorded at Compass Point in the Bahamas, it was produced by Mick with Bill Laswell and Nile Rodgers and includes the single “Just Another Night,” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs chart and No. 12 on the Hot 100. Other guests included Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend and Herbie Hancock. Jagger performed songs from the album that year at Live Aid.

Primitive Cool, made in the Netherlands and Barbados, followed in 1987, this time co-produced by the artist with Keith Diamond and David A. Stewart. It featured the flagship single “Let’s Work” and “Party Doll,” later covered by Americana original Mary Chapin Carpenter. Mick subsequently toured the album in Japan and Australia. 1993’s Wandering Spirit showcased the potent production pairing of Jagger and Rick Rubin and had Jagger at his incomparably energetic best on songs like the swaggering “Wired All Night.” It also saw him exploring and expanding his country, soul and funk roots, including the hit single “Sweet Thing” and a cover of Bill Withers’ “Use Me,” featuring vocals by Lenny Kravitz. Other guests included Flea, Courtney Pine, Benmont Tench and Billy Preston. The album was certified gold in the U.S.

Jagger’s most recent solo album, 2001’s Goddess In The Doorway, was produced by Jagger with Marti Frederiksen and longtime collaborator Matt Clifford. There were production cameos by Chris Potter, Wyclef Jean, Jerry Duplessis and Lenny Kravitz, the latter on the rock hit “God Gave Me Everything.” Bono and Pete Townshend both appeared on “Joy,” and the album also included the single “Visions Of Paradise,” co-written with Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas.

It’s not just the low tones of Nick Cave’s vocals in the opening theme tune that have become synonymous with the BBC’s Birmingham-based flagship gangster drama centered around Tommy Shelby, his family and their somewhat dubious business practices. Alongside the atmospheric opener, all the songs featured in the show have been painstakingly chosen to reflect the feel of the program (the violence, the grit AND the glamour), which was inspired by a real group of gangsters in post WW1 Birmingham.

The soundtrack features a previously unreleased rendition of the show’s iconic theme song, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’Red Right Hand.” Only available on this release, the track was recorded specifically for the show by PJ Harvey and following its premiere this morning on BBC Radio 6 Music, it will be available to stream and download here: https://peakyblinders.lnk.to/RedRightHand.

Also, exclusively on the album are Jehnny Beth’s “I’m The Man” and Anna Calvi’s season five score, “You’re Not God,” along with Richard Hawley’s (Bob Dylan) “Ballad of A Thin Man” on CD and vinyl for the first time. The album is completed by songs from Nick Cave himself, Arctic Monkeys, The White Stripes, Royal Blood, The Last Shadow Puppets, Queens of the Stone Age, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Laura Marling, and Foals amongst others.

The show is known for its dark and dramatic soundtrack, acting as a window into the mind of Tommy Shelby – a tortured ex-soldier who suffers from PTSD after fighting in the trenches during World War One. The 2CD and 3LP sets feature music and key clips of dialogue from all five seasons of the show. The 2CD also includes a 32-page book with images from the show, behind-the-scenes notes from Guardian journalist Phil Harrison, quotes from the cast and The Chap magazine in conversation with Peaky Blinders‘ Costume Designer, Alison McCosh.

The show has been particularly celebrated for its stylish cinematography and charismatic performances, enhanced by the use of contemporary music, and with the latest season’s score by the multi–Mercury Award Nominated singer songwriter Anna Calvi, the plaudits just kept coming. The soundtrack album also features seasons 1-5 original scores created specifically for the show. Show Creator Steven Knight was instrumental in pushing the importance of the music used in the show: “The Peaky Blinders story and the music we use are twins, born at the same time. It would be difficult to imagine most of the pivotal moments without the soundtrack. I’m so glad that at last we have been able to put some of the tracks together on one album, to put the atmosphere and swagger and snarl of the show into your headphones and speakers.”

A free limited-edition Peaky Blinders poster will be included for the first 500 pre-orders on both the 2CD and 3LP across uDiscover, The Sound Of Vinyl and Recordstore.co.uk. The BBC is set to release the DVD box set of season 5 on November 11.

So, crack open a bottle of Shelby’s Gin, unbutton your waistcoat, relax and sit back to enjoy the music – BY ORDER OF THE PEAKY BLINDERS!

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 28, 2019 — By the time an artist releases their 18th studio album, there’s usually not much they haven’t accomplished by then but for Reba McEntire it was just another way she smashed the mold and created several new career milestones. Upon releasing Read My Mind in 1994, the album went on to sell more than three million copies, becoming one of the most popular of her career, and earned Reba her first Billboard Hot 100 single with the aching ballad, “Till You Love Me.” Along with singles, “Why Haven’t I Heard From You,” “She Thinks His Name Was John” and “The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter,” which all dominated the country chart, Read My Mind was one of the biggest albums of the year, soaring to #2 on both the country album chart and Billboard 200. The record was also a launching pad for many firsts for the country megastar including her New York Times best-selling autobiography, “Reba: My Story,” as well as her first-ever NBC Television concert special, filmed while she toured more than 60 dates across the United States and Canada.

Reba McEntire will celebrate the 25th anniversary of her classic album, "Read My Mind" with a suite of new expanded anniversary editions including the first-ever vinyl release.
Reba McEntire will celebrate the 25th anniversary of her classic album, “Read My Mind” with a suite of new expanded anniversary editions including the first-ever vinyl release.

Despite all those landmarks, there’s one the album has yet to receive, until now. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Read My Mind, MCA Nashville/UMe will release the album on vinyl for the first time ever on December 6. The triple Platinum album will be released in several expanded anniversary editions with a new bonus track, a live performance of “And Still,” complete with Reba’s humorous story of filming the video in Guatemala. Read My Mind will be available on both standard black vinyl and as a limited edition color pressing on white vinyl, available exclusively at Reba.com. The 25th edition of the album will also be released digitally and on CD for the first time in 12 years. Pre-order Read My Mind here: https://UMe.lnk.to/ReadMyMind

“I love every single song on this album, and I am so proud that all these years later my fans still want to hear them in our live shows,” Reba writes in the heartfelt new liner notes accompanying the anniversary editions. “A lot of the songs on this record have become career-defining songs for me. I can’t imagine doing a show now without the crowd singing along to ‘Why Haven’t I Heard From You.’ There were also songs on this record, like the AIDS message song ‘She Thinks His Name Was John,’ that went beyond entertainment and hopefully affected some hearts and minds with a story that no one was talking about at the time. I am very proud to have been able to be the conduit for these incredible songs.”

Read My Mind was produced by Reba and longtime producer Tony Brown who worked together on several of her acclaimed albums of this era. Launching with the first single, “Why Haven’t I Heard From You,” which peaked at #5 on the country chart, the record spawned five hit singles which were supported with a series of iconic videos, including the aforementioned song’s highly imaginative video that showcased Reba’s comedic acting chops as she danced and sung in a musical theater-inspired dream sequence. The cinematic video for “And Still” was beautifully filmed in a Guatemalan village over four days while the video for “She Thinks His Name Was John” was an emotional live performance of the powerful song that saw Reba courageously addressing the HIV/AIDS crisis head on. The song gained media attention and controversy for its subject matter about a woman dying from AIDS she had contracted during a one-night stand. Rolling Stone recently declared it as one of “40 Saddest Country Songs Of All Time,” writing, “it remains country music’s highest-profile response to the crisis.”

For both lifelong and more recent fans, the 25th anniversary edition of Read My Mind provides a perfect opportunity to revisit one of Reba’s most beloved albums or to fall in love with it for the first time.

“It’s been a blast going through the archives and finding all these hidden gems,” says Van Zandt. “In addition to demos in various stages of completion, there are entire songs I’d completely forgotten about, and we found some really early things pre-Jukes like Southside Johnny and the Kid (the kid being me!). I’m excited to have my stuff back on vinyl for the first time in decades!”

It will be available for preorder soon.

STREAM MEN WITHOUT WOMEN DIGITAL DELUXE EDITION

Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul made their spectacular debut with 1982’s Men Without Women, highlighted by a pair of rock radio favorites in the opening “Lyin’ In A Bed Of Fire” and “Forever,” the latter of which spent nine weeks on Billboard‘s “Hot 100” while also receiving heavy rotation at the newly launched MTV. Van Zandt and the Disciples of Soul celebrated Men Without Women with sold out live dates including a legendary performance at NYC’s famed Peppermint Lounge that saw electrifying renditions of the album’s “Save Me” and “This Time It’s For Real” (written by Van Zandt and made famous by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes), both included on RockNRoll Rebel – The Early Work.

RockNRoll Rebel – The Early Work – which arrives hot on the heels of Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul’s acclaimed latest album, Summer of Sorcery (Wicked Cool/UMe) – features appearances from an assortment of friends, collaborators, and special guests, including Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny, Rubén Blades, Miles Davis, Gary U.S. Bonds, Dino Danelli, and members of both the E Street Band and the Asbury Jukes.

To coincide with the release of RockNRoll Rebel, Van Zandt will be making select videos from his early career available on his official YouTube channel for the first time as well as offering up a ton of other visuals from the era. Fans can subscribe to the channel to be notified when videos are posted: https://www.youtube.com/user/LittleStevenVEVO

Following two years of nearly constant touring, totaling more than 150 shows across North America, Europe, and Australia, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul will close the year with two triumphant final shows at the Chevalier Theatre in Boston on November 2nd followed by a homecoming performance at New York’s Beacon Theatre on November 6th.

Janet Jackson’s ‘Control’ On Vinyl For The First Time Since The Album’s Initial Release (A&M/UMe)

The Newest Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Inductee’s Groundbreaking Multiplatinum Third Album Is Granted A 1LP Vinyl Reissue On June 7

Apr 18, 2019, 09:00 ET

LOS ANGELES, April 18, 2019 — On June 7, A&M/UMe is set to release Janet Jackson’s iconic mega platinum-selling third album Control on single vinyl in two different color options: black and translucent red. This will be the first time Control has been reissued on vinyl since the album’s initial release on February 4, 1986. Fans who attend her newly announced Las Vegas Residency, Metamorphosis, opening at the Park Theater at Park MGM, will be the first to purchase the vinyl albums that will be available in the store with other incredible items. Fans can pre-order the album HERE.

Janet Jackson's 'Control' will be released on vinyl for the first time since the album initial release on June 7 via A&M/UMe.
Janet Jackson’s ‘Control’ will be released on vinyl for the first time since the album initial release on June 7 via A&M/UMe.

Over the course of its relentlessly catchy and undeniably danceable 42 minutes, Control instantly established Jackson, along with her co-writers/producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, as perennial pop and R&B innovators. (The three of them continued to experiment and break new ground together on a number of subsequent best-selling releases, including 1989’s Rhythm Nation 1814 and 1993’s janet.) Control is internationally recognized as a singular fusion of musical styles including rhythm and blues, funk, pop, soul, disco, and modern synthesized percussion. Control also solidified the fact that Janet Jackson had truly arrived as a liberated and noteworthy artist, one who ultimately emerged as a global superstar and a model for independent women the world over.

Led by five chart-busting hit singles — “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “Nasty,” “Control,” “When I Think Of You,” —with their complementary, tightly choreographed music videos — and “Let’s Wait Awhile,” Control became Jackson’s first No. 1 Pop album. The album also made Billboard chart history for having the longest continuous run on the Hot 100 with singles from one album, ultimately tallying a remarkable 65 consecutive weeks from that perch. To date, Control has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.

Ms. Jackson is also gearing up for what promises to be a busy year ahead. Not only was she recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s vaunted Class of 2019, but her Las Vegas Residency, evocatively dubbed Metamorphosis, begins in May and is currently scheduled to run for 15 performances in total through August. Jackson will also make her debut at Glastonbury Festival 2019 and Montreux Jazz Festival this summer.

Janet Jackson’s Control is a career-defining statement from a singular artist, one who did it her way to handily prove that a visionary album with many hot, nasty grooves is quite worthy of aural revisitation on high-grade vinyl.

The Rolling Stones’ new best of album ‘Honk’ is out now.

Honk‘s Deluxe Editionavailable on 3CD, 4LP and digital – collects 36 essential Stones’ tracks – including eight Top 10 singles, “Brown Sugar,” “Tumbling Dice,” “Angie,” “It’s Only Rock’n’Roll (But I Like It),” “Fool To Cry,” “Miss You,” “Emotional Rescue” and “Start Me Up.” Bringing the band’s story up to date, Honk also includes hit single “Doom & Gloom” – recorded in 2012, “Just Your Fool,” “Ride ‘Em On Down” and “Hate To See You Go” from the band’s 2016’s GRAMMY® Award-winning, No 1 album, Blue & Lonesome. Honk is also available as a 1CD and 2LP edition featuring 20 Stones’ hits.

The Deluxe Edition includes a bonus disc of 10 live tracks recorded at stadiums around the world during the band’s more recent sold-out tours. These include “Dead Flowers,” with Americana star Brad Paisley, and “Bitch” with Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl, both during the 50 And Counting tour as well as an electrifying version of “Wild Horses,” featuring Florence Welch, from the band’s show in London in May 2018 during last year’s leg of the No Filter tour.

Honk is available as a special fan Deluxe Edition Color 4LP exclusively at RollingStones.com. The limited edition heavy-weight colored vinyl set (purple, red, orange, yellow) is housed in a special slip case and includes a 12” x 12” artwork insert.

Honk showcases The Rolling Stones’ remarkable run of hits. Taken from the band’s imperial phase, Honk features “Happy” (Exile On Main Street, 1972), “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)” (Goats Head Soup, 1973) and “Beast Of Burden” (Some Girls, 1978) alongside later singles like “Waiting On A Friend” (Tattoo You, 1981), “Undercover (Of The Night)” (Undercover, 1983), “Harlem Shuffle” (Dirty Work, 1986), “Rock And A Hard Place” (Steel Wheels, 1989), “Love Is Strong” (Voodoo Lounge, 1994), “Out Of Control” (Bridges To Babylon, 1997), “Rough Justice” (A Bigger Bang, 2005) and “Just Your Fool” (Blue & Lonesome, 2016).

Honk also highlights classic Stones’ album cuts – “Bitch” (Sticky Fingers, 1971), “Rocks Off” (Exile On Main Street, 1972) “Dancing With Mr. D”, (Goats Head Soup, 1973) and “Respectable” (Some Girls, 1978) – as well as stand-alone tracks such as “Don’t Stop” (Forty Licks, 2002) and “One More Shot” (GRRR!).

On Honk, “Get Off My Cloud”, “Let’s Spend The Night Together” and “Under My Thumb” (recorded in Cardiff, Manchester and London, respectively, during the 2018 No Filter tour) ably represent the band’s ground-breaking early-mid ’60s years; while the version of “She’s A Rainbow” from Paris, 2017, provides a relatively rare outing of this classic piece of psychedelic Stones. The appearance of “Dancing With Mr. D”, meanwhile, recorded in Arnhem, 2017, marks the song’s acclaimed return to the band’s set lists for the first time in 44 years.

Mrs. Rita Marley’s own career retrospective, quite aptly dubbed Lioness of Reggae, is being released on limited-edition vinyl by Tuff Gong Worldwide on May 3.

A new visual for “Satisfy My Soul” was recently shot by Pantera as directed by Brian Kazez and produced by Propaganda Films, serving as a conceptual interpretation of the song to show what it means to “feel alright” in Jamaica. This also happens to be the same directorial team that shot a new clip for “Easy Skanking,” which was filmed in Kingston and garnered much acclaim earlier this year for the way it shared an authentic look at a day in the life of Jamaica and the indefatigable, uprising spirit of the people who live, love, and work there the whole year round.

To this day, Bob Marley remains one of popular culture’s most important and influential entertainment icons. His lifestyle and music continue to inspire new generations around the world. Marley was the first Jamaican artist to give voice to the struggles of his people and introduce Rastafarian culture to the world at large, and his expansive music catalog has sold millions of albums all across the globe.

Bob Marley’s legacy truly lives on in the artists and generations he has influenced. Today, the spiritual, political, and musical resonance of the man’s work continues to be felt around the world, and Legend is the one true collection that cements his perpetual global legacy.

Peter Frampton Band’s ‘All Blues’ Due For Release June 7 Via UMe

“I JUST WANT TO MAKE LOVE TO YOU” (FEATURING KIM WILSON) PREMIERES TODAY

SIRIUSXM SIX-WEEK SERIES “THE PETER FRAMPTON SHOW” DEBUTS MAY 10 ON DEEP TRACKS CHANNEL

PETER FRAMPTON FINALE–THE FAREWELL TOUR KICKS OFF THIS SUMMER

Apr 26, 2019, 08:00 ET

LOS ANGELES, April 26, 2019 — All Blues, the forthcoming covers album from the Peter Frampton Band, is set for release on June 7 via UMe. The album is a collection of Frampton’s favorite blues classics and was recorded with his longtime touring band, made up of Adam Lester (guitar/vocals), Rob Arthur (keyboards/guitar/vocals) and Dan Wojciechowski (drums).

I Just Want To Make Love To You” (featuring Kim Wilson) is the first song to be released from the new album, and is available now with digital album pre-order. Listen/share the track HERE.

'All Blues,' the forthcoming covers album from the Peter Frampton Band, is set for release on June 7 via UMe.
‘All Blues,’ the forthcoming covers album from the Peter Frampton Band, is set for release on June 7 via UMe.

All Blues was recorded at Frampton’s studio in Nashville, Studio Phenix, and was co-produced by Frampton and Chuck Ainlay. The album features additional collaborations with Larry Carlton, Sonny Landreth and Steve Morse.

The vinyl will be available as a double LP and also as a limited edition translucent blue color pressing exclusively at PeterFrampton.com. The double LP will include the bonus track “I Feel So Good,” which was written by Big Bill Broonzy and popularized by Muddy Waters.

Of the album, Frampton explains, “I have always loved to play the blues. When we formed Humble Pie, the first material we played together was just that. For the last two summers I had been playing a handful of blues numbers every night on stage with Steve Miller Band. I enjoyed this immensely and it gave me the idea of doing an ‘All Blues’ album live in the studio with my band. We started the resulting sessions 9 days after coming off the road last year. Over a two-week period, we recorded 23 tracks, all live in the studio. The energy of these tracks is completely different from building a track one instrument at a time. With this recording, we pay tribute to all the original artists who invented this incredible music. I hope you can hear and feel our enjoyment. I’m not sure if you can say we had fun playing the blues. But we definitely did.”

To support All Blues, Frampton will be hosting a new six-week series on SiriusXM‘s Deep Tracks channel. “The Peter Frampton Show” will premiere on Friday, May 10 at 10:00am ET on SiriusXM radios (channel 27) and on the SiriusXM app. Additionally, Frampton will walk SiriusXM listeners through each song from the new album in an exclusive track-by-track on SiriusXM’s BB King’s Bluesville channel. “Peter Frampton’s All Blues Show” will air on Monday, June 3 at 3:00pm ET on SiriusXM radios (channel 74) and on the SiriusXM app.

In conjunction with the album’s release, Frampton will kick off Peter Frampton FinaleThe Farewell Tour presented by SiriusXM—an approximately 50-date run this summer and fall produced by Live Nation. Frampton will retire from regular vigorous touring at the end of this year due to his diagnosis of the autoimmune disease Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM). IBM is a progressive muscle disorder characterized by muscle inflammation, weakness and atrophy. Frampton recently discussed his diagnosis with CBSThis Morning: Saturday;” watch the segment HERE.

The tour will feature special guest Jason Bonham‘s Led Zeppelin Evening, as well as Julian Frampton on the west coast stops, with additional surprise guests to appear on select dates. Tickets are on sale now and VIP packages will also be available at www.frampton.com. $1 of every ticket sold, as well as any donations, will benefit The Peter Frampton Myositis Research Fund at Johns Hopkins, a newly established fund by Frampton and Johns Hopkins, where he’s being treated.

Peter Frampton remains one of the most lauded artists in rock history. On May 7, the Music Business Association will present him with the Chairman’s Award for Sustained Creative Achievement at the Awards & Hall of Fame Dinner that is part of the Association’s annual conference—Music Biz 2019—set to take place May 5-8 in Nashville. Frampton was also recently honored with the Les Paul Innovation Award at the 2019 NAMM Show’s 34th annual TEC Awards, and celebrated the 43rd anniversary of his fifth solo album, Frampton Comes Alive!, one of the top-selling live records of all time (over 17 million copies sold worldwide).

LITTLE STEVEN TO TAKE OVER SIRIUSXM’S CLASSIC VINYL ALL WEEKEND

May 03, 2019, 08:00 ET

NEW YORK, May 3, 2019 —

“The most eclectic record he’s ever made… it largely dispenses with protest songs and revels in the rock, soul and R&B of his Sixties youth. On tracks like ‘Soul Power Twist,’ ‘Vortex’ and ‘Love Again,’ he returns to the sort of Jersey Shore soul shakers he once wrote for Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.”
– Rolling Stone

Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul’s first new album of original material in 20 years, 'Summer of Sorcery,' is available today via Wicked Cool/UMe.
Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul’s first new album of original material in 20 years, ‘Summer of Sorcery,’ is available today via Wicked Cool/UMe.

“A nostalgic New Jersey starburst of sex and soul.”
– Uncut

“Summer of Sorcery’s 12 tracks also explore a variety of motifs, from the brassy soul rock of ‘Communion’ to the funk of ‘Gravity,’ rockabilly on ‘Superfly Terraplane,’ doo-wop on ‘Love Again,’ the Latino flavor of ‘Party Mambo!,’ ‘Vortex’s’ homage to Isaac Hayes’ Shaft soundtrack and the bouncy Gary U.S. Bonds feel of ‘Soul Power Twist.’ ‘A World of Our Own,’ meanwhile, has a shimmering Phil Spector quality that Van Zandt acknowledges as ‘the girl group entry of this album.'”
– Billboard

“Steven, his musical director Marc Ribler and veteran mixers/masterers Bob Clearmountain and Bob Ludwig, pull out all the stops to make this sonic smorgasbord explode out of the speakers with passion and clout. Few artists have the financial means or artistic vision to pull off a thunderous production like this which is impressive in its scope and sheer booming audio audacity.”
– American Songwriter

Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul’s first new album of original material in 20 years, Summer of Sorcery, is available today via Wicked Cool/UMe. The highly anticipated new album, a collection of 12 songs that captures the energy, excitement and electricity of summer, is receiving rave reviews for its exuberant mix of rock n’ soul delivered with unmatched passion and authenticity by one of rock and roll’s most loyal practitioners, Steven Van Zandt. Summer of Sorcery is available now on CD, digitally, and on vinyl as double LP on 180-gram black vinyl. A limited edition double LP on 180-gram psychedelic swirl vinyl is available exclusively via uDiscover. Order Summer of Sorcery now: https://ume.lnk.to/SummerOfSorceryPR

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and founder of SiriusXM’s Underground Garage (Ch. 21) will celebrate the release of Summer of Sorcery with a special weekend-long takeover of SiriusXM’s Classic Vinyl (Ch. 26). “Steven Van Zandt’s Classic Vinyl Takeover” will feature Little Steven spinning vintage and classic rock tracks as well as playing songs from the new album. The takeover begins Friday, May 3 at 5pm ET with replays throughout the weekend on Classic Vinyl.

“These are richly bombastic horn arrangements, dancing grooves, and high powered performances from a band that loves taking it at full throttle.”
– Glide Magazine

Having just returned from an Australian/New Zealand tour where they put the exclamation point on their Soulfire Live! Tour, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul will celebrate Summer of Sorcery with a pair of eagerly awaited record release shows at Los Angeles’ Saban Theatre this Saturday, May 4 and Asbury Park, NJ’s famed Paramount Theatre on Wednesday, May 8. The band will then embark on the epic Summer of Sorcery World Tour 2019,” beginning May 16 at Liverpool, UK’s 02 Academy and continuing through the year. The globetrotting trek will feature headline and festival stops across the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy and Spain before returning home to kick off an extensive North American tour that will get underway June 29 at Syracuse, NY’s New York State Blues Fest and then travel the Eastern US and Canada through an eagerly awaited performance at Annapolis, MD’s Outlaw Jam on July 28. Additional European headline and festival dates follow, including dates in Norway, Denmark, Poland, Germany, Luxembourg, Ireland, Austria, and the United Kingdom.

“Back in the saddle as bandleader, his tangible labour of love defiantly captures old-school New York’s cross-pollinating melting pot with rich infusions of Latin (‘Party Mambo’), blues (‘I Visit The Blues’), blaxploitation (‘Vortex’), classic rock’n’roll (‘Superfly Terraplane’), Southside Johnny And The Asbury Jukes (‘Soul Power Twistin”), and still making a social point on ‘Education.'”
– Classic Rock

Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul will then set off for the second leg of their North American tour, beginning September 5-8 at Las Vegas, NV’s Big Blues Bender at Hard Rock Casino & Hotel and traveling through the fall. The band will make an appearance at Louisville, KY’s Bourbon & Beyond on September 22 and include dates up and down the Western US, South, Midwest and East Coast before culminating with a hometown show at the legendary Beacon Theatre in NYC on November 6. All shows for the second leg of the tour will go on sale next Friday, May 10. Each ticket purchased online for the first leg of the US headline tour dates will include a CD of Summer of Sorcery. Exclusive VIP Meet & Greet Upgrade Packages are also available for most dates. All teachers and a guest will get in to the shows for free. For complete details, updates and ticket availability, please visit www.littlesteven.com/on-tour.

In addition, each and every US headline date on the Summer of Sorcery Tour 2019 will benefit Van Zandt’s TeachRock education initiative and offer an introduction to the Teachrock.org curriculum. Before the show, the TeachRock staff will host free professional development workshops designed to engage educators with techniques and content through which they can comfortably use music to inspire students, even if they’ve never touched an instrument. The free, multimedia K-12 interdisciplinary curriculum meets prevailing standards in English Language Arts, Social Studies/History, the Fine and Performing Arts, and also includes STEAM and advisory material suitable for K-12 teachers of all disciplines, interdisciplinary best practices, and group activities.

“It’s genuinely doubtful that many other—if any other—musicians working today could have the ambition or confidence to deliver an album of this power and surprise. But Van Zandt simply knows no bounds nor succumbs to uncertainty or hesitancy—concepts that beleaguer many but are routinely shouldered aside by this genuine genius. With this, Van Zandt’s first release in around 20 years, we should count ourselves lucky that he’s prepared to share some of his magic with us from time to time.”
– Elmore Magazine

Little Steven will be joined on the “Summer of Sorcery World Tour 2019″ by the one and only Disciples of Soul, a 14-strong all-star ensemble made up of some of the best studio and live musicians in the business. Leading the charge alongside Van Zandt is musical director and guitarist Marc Ribler (Darlene Love, Roger McGuinn, Carole King) who conducts the band: Lowell “Banana” Levinger (of The Youngbloods) on piano and Wurlitzer, bassist Jack Daley (Lenny Kravitz, Boz Scaggs, Darryl Hall), drummer Rich Mercurio (Ben E King, Sara Bareilles, Idina Menzel), percussionist Anthony Almonte (King Creole and The Coconuts), Andy Burton on B3 organ, piano, synthesizers (Cyndi Lauper, John Mayer, Ian Hunter), the dynamite horn section of horn director Eddie Manion on baritone saxophone (Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny), Stan Harrison on tenor saxophone and flute (David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Duran Duran), Ron Tooley on trumpet (James Brown, John Lennon, Maceo Parker), Ravi Best on trumpet (Aretha Franklin, Stevie, Wonder, Kool and The Gang) and Clark Gayton on trombone (Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Joss Stone, Rhianna). The band is rounded out with the soulful, synchronized dancing backup singers Jessie Wagner (Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Chic), Sara Devine (Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige) and Tania Jones (Disciples of Soul).

Summer of Sorcery is Van Zandt’s commitment to his solo career and was born from his renewed interest in his own music following his return to the spotlight with 2017’s Soulfire, his first album as Little Steven in nearly two decades. Created with a new incarnation of the Disciples of Soul, that album saw him revisit songs that spanned the length of his career as artist, performer, producer, arranger, and songwriter, focusing on the “soul horns-meet-rock ‘n’ roll guitars” sound he first pioneered on Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes’ classic first three albums and later, his own first solo LP. After two years on the road, which totaled more than a hundred shows and resulted in a rousing live CD, concert Blu-ray video and 7LP vinyl box set, Little Steven was inspired to record his first album of original material in 20 years, buoyed by his incredible 14-piece band, the first time he ever used the same band for consecutive albums. Together they retreated to Van Zandt’s NYC studio in the fall of 2018 and conjured up 12 incredible sonic movie scenes that feel like summer.

“Featuring Little Steven’s lifelong production expertise, passionate vocals and biting lead guitar and the effortless musicianship of the Disciples of Soul (who’ve now played over 100 shows together and are capable of performing any style of music, anyway, anyhow, anywhere), it’s an eclectic mix of rock and soul, blues, Latin rhythms, funky grooves and – for the first time in a while – pure, uncomplicated, infectious pop music. The good kind, rooted in tradition and influenced by past masters of the art.”
– Backstreets

Summer of Sorcery is Little Steven at his omnivorous, humanistic best, expertly crafted and deeply rooted in the many classic genres which taught and inspired the self-proclaimed “walking history lesson” from the jump. With their richly bombastic arrangements, floor-shaking groves, and high-powered performances from all involved, new songs like “Soul Power Twist” and the album kick off “Communion” synthesize Van Zandt’s incalculable range of cultural and sonic inspirations into a one-of-a-kind brass-fueled brand of Technicolor rock ‘n’ soul unlike anyone else’s. The album features 10 original new songs alongside “Suddenly You,” an outtake from the “Lilyhammer” score, Netflix’s first original series, which starred Van Zandt who also composed all the music for trailblazing show, and a reimagining of “Education” which was first recorded for his 1989 album Revolution. “The education system needs to be fixed, needs to be improved,” he says. “Teachers need to be supported. There needs to be more support, more funding. That’s what I’m trying to get across with my TeachRock program and that’s all in this song.”

The record culminates with the epic title track, “Summer of Sorcery,” an eight-minute mission statement that conjures the euphoric rush of a summer romance and limitless possibility. “The whole theme of the album is summed up in that song, that wizardry, that magic mixture of falling in love in the summer,” says Van Zandt.

“With this record I really wanted to travel back to a time when life was exciting, when unlimited possibilities were there every day,” says Van Zandt. “That was the feeling in the ’60s, the thrill of the unexpected coming at you. Our minds were blown every single day, one amazing thing after another, constantly lifting you up. So you kind of walked around six inches off the ground all the time, there was something that kept you buoyant in your spirit. I wanted to try and capture that first and foremost.”

Brian Eno Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks – Extended Edition – July 19th

A whole disc of new music, plus Eno’s seminal original album re-mastered

May 08, 2019, 08:00 ET

LOS ANGELES, May 8, 2019 —Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks was written, produced and performed by Brian Eno together with his brother Roger and Daniel Lanois. The music was originally recorded in 1983 for the landmark feature-length documentary For All Mankind, which was directed by American journalist, film director and screenwriter Al Reinert. The film features 35mm footage of the Apollo 11 moon landing with real-time commentary, as well as the Apollo astronauts sharing their recollections of the momentous events surrounding it.

An extended edition of the album will be released on July 19th in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. This very special anniversary release features the original album remastered by Abbey Road’s Miles Showell, as well as an accompanying album of 11 new instrumental compositions that reimagine the soundtrack to For All Mankind.

The music from the original album is highly recognizable, and tracks from it have been streamed in excess of 300 million times. Since its release, many of the songs from Apollo have found a life of their own, featuring in any number of films, television shows and commercials – most notably Trainspotting, Traffic, 28 Days Later, Drive and Love. “An Ending (Ascent)” was also used in the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony.

Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois produced the original Apollo album, which was recorded at Daniel and his brother Bob’s studio in Hamilton, Ontario. Lanois also collaborated with Eno on several other projects, most famously producing several albums for U2, including multi-platinum The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby and No Line On The Horizon.

Apollo was the first recording experience for Roger Eno and was the springboard into a long solo career of his own. He went on to record a number of other film scores, with and without his brother.

The 11 new tracks on Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks find Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois and Roger Eno working collectively for the first time since the original album in 1983. Lanois contributed 3 compositions; “Capsule,” “Last Step From The Surface” and “Fine-grained,” while Roger Eno’s are “Waking Up,” “Under The Moon” and “Strange Quiet.”

Comments on the original album:

“One of Eno’s most stately pieces. Its other worldly qualities reflect a mature artist approaching his work with a craftsman’s care and considerationBBC

“At times empty and disconnected (‘Matta’), weightless and serene (‘Drift’) and completely beautiful (‘An Ending (Ascent)), it adheres to an internal logic that culminates with the suitably skin-crawling ‘Stars’Pitchfork

Roger Daltrey – The Who’s Tommy Orchestral

VINYL / CD / DIGITAL RELEASED JUNE 14th 2019 ON POLYDOR/UMe

A BRAND-NEW ORCHESTRAL VERSION OF THE WHO’S CLASSIC ALBUM TO CELEBRATE 50 YEARS SINCE THE ORIGINAL WAS FIRST RELEASED

RECORDED LIVE AT THE SITE OF THE ORIGINAL WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL WHERE THE WHO PERFORMED TOMMY IN FULL 50 YEARS AGO

‘THE WHO: MOVING ON! LIVE’ WITH AN ORCHESTRA IN LONDON AND ACROSS NORTH AMERICA 2019

May 09, 2019, 11:00 ET

LOS ANGELES, May 9, 2019 — In the of Summer 2018, Roger Daltrey and his band toured the U.S.A. performing The Who’s classic album Tommy with some of the finest symphony orchestras that America has to offer, an experience that Daltrey described as ‘magical.’

Featuring a bold new orchestration by the renowned composer and arranger David Campbell (who has worked with Adele, Radiohead, Bob Dylan, Metallica, Carole King and his son Beck to name a few) this incarnation of Tommy celebrates the 50th anniversary of the album’s first release. Preview “Pinball Wizard,” here.

‘ROGER DALTREY – THE WHO’S TOMMY ORCHESTRAL’ on Vinyl / CD / Digital To be Released June 14, 2019 ON POLYDOR/UMe

The album, which was recorded in Budapest and Bethel in upstate New York, the scene of the first Woodstock festival 50 years ago, was produced by Roger Daltrey and Keith Levenson (who worked on the touring version of the Tommy Musical) and features the core band of Simon Townshend – Vocals / Guitar, Frank Simes – Guitar, Scott Devours – Drums, Jon Button – Bass, and Loren Gold – keyboards, all of whom have played with The Who live. Keith Levenson conducted The Budapest Scoring Orchestra from new orchestrations by David Campbell.

Roger Daltrey on Tommy‘s enduring appeal after 50 years and why it sounds better with an orchestra: “Pete’s music is particularly suited to being embellished by the sounds that an orchestra can add to the band. Tommy can mean whatever you want it to mean, I use the characters in it as metaphors for parts of the human condition, so it’s a kind of a story of the human spirit. Even though it is 50 years on, I approach it as though I’m singing it for the first time.”

Since it was first debuted at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in Soho London in early May 1969, Tommy has had many different live outings; it was performed in full at the Woodstock and Isle Of Wight Festivals in 1969, it was the basis for a ballet in Canada in 1970, it was a full-blown opera in Seattle in 1971, in 1972 it was recorded as an orchestral piece by the London Symphony Orchestra featuring Stevie Winwood, Rod Stewart, Richie Havens, Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr, there was the infamous 1975 movie directed by Ken Russell starring Elton John, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, Ann-Margaret, Oliver Reed, Jack Nicholson and Roger Daltrey. After that, the band didn’t perform it again until 1989 in Los Angeles when guests such as Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Elton John & Patti Labelle were part of the show. In 1993, the musical version opened on Broadway and won five Tony awards before transferring to The West End where it went on to win three Olivier awards.

The band played it in full, for what they have said is the last time for the Teen Cancer Trust at The Royal Albert Hall in 2017 but will be performing parts of their classic rock opera on their 2019 North American tour, The Who: Moving On!, utilizing up to 50 local musicians from the greatest symphonies across the country at every show starting with May 7 in Grand Rapids, MN.  $1 from each ticket sold online for the tour will benefit Teen Cancer America. After successfully establishing the Teen Cancer Trust in London, Daltrey and Townshend launched Teen Cancer America in 2012.  The charity has devoted Teen Cancer units being opened in hospitals across the U.S.  TCA’s work has impacted more than 5,000 young people and their families nationwide during the last six years. Peter Frampton Band’s “The Thrill Is Gone” (Featuring Sonny Landreth) Premieres At Billboard

‘ALL BLUES’ OUT JUNE 7 VIA UMe

SIRIUSXM SIX-WEEK SERIES “THE PETER FRAMPTON SHOW” DEBUTS TODAY ON DEEP TRACKS CHANNEL

PETER FRAMPTON FINALE–THE FAREWELL TOUR KICKS OFF THIS SUMMER

May 10, 2019, 08:00 ET

LOS ANGELES, May 10, 2019 — “The Thrill Is Gone” (featuring Sonny Landreth), the latest song off Peter Frampton Band‘s forthcoming album All Blues, is premiering via Billboard who says “…the thrill is definitely not gone for Peter Frampton.” The song was written by Rick Darnell and Roy Hawkins, and popularized by B.B. King. “The Thrill Is Gone” is available now with digital album pre-order. Listen/share the track HERE.

The Peter Frampton Band's new album 'All Blues' will be released June 7 via UMe.
The Peter Frampton Band’s new album ‘All Blues’ will be released June 7 via UMe.

All Blues is a collection of Frampton’s favorite blues classics and was recorded with his longtime touring band, made up of Adam Lester (guitar/vocals), Rob Arthur (keyboards/guitar/vocals) and Dan Wojciechowski (drums).

The album was recorded at Frampton’s studio in Nashville, Studio Phenix, and was co-produced by Frampton and Chuck Ainlay. The album features additional collaborations with Kim Wilson, Larry Carlton and Steve Morse.

The vinyl will be available as a double LP and also as a limited edition translucent blue color pressing exclusively at PeterFrampton.com. The double LP will include the bonus track “I Feel So Good (written by Big Bill Broonzy, opb Muddy Waters).

To support All Blues, Frampton will host a new six-week series on SiriusXM‘s Deep Tracks channel. “The Peter Frampton Show” debuts today at 10:00am ET on SiriusXM radios (channel 27) and on the SiriusXM app.

Frampton recently discussed his diagnosis with CBSThis Morning: Saturday,” watch the segment HERE.

Earlier this week, the Music Business Association presented him with the Chairman’s Award for Sustained Creative Achievement at the Awards & Hall of Fame Dinner that is part of the Association’s annual conference—Music Biz 2019.

On February 17, 2013, Soundgarden concluded a sold-out U.S. Winter tour in support of King Animal, their first studio album in over sixteen years, with a special Live from the Artists Den taping at the Wiltern in Los Angeles. Soundgarden mixed new songs with classic radio hits and rarities performed live for the first time in front of a rapturous crowd. The concert has become the all-time most requested Soundgarden live show for an official release.  The 29 song, nearly two-and-a-half-hour show, encompasses the band’s rich musical legacy, spanning their early years with “Hunted Down,” through their monumental albums Badmotorfinger and Superunknown respectively with “Outshined” and “Black Hole Sun,” and to their final record, with nearly every song from King Animal including “By Crooked Steps” and “Been Away Too Long.”  Live From The Artists Den features 21 songs never before released on a Soundgarden concert film, including 17 making their first appearance on a live album, and highlighted by “Blind Dogs,” which the band performed on stage for the first time ever at the Wiltern show. Pre-order Soundgarden:Live from the Artists Den now. View Official Trailer

Six years following the original taping, Artists Den in partnership with UMe, will release a selection of products for Soundgarden: Live from the Artists Den on July 26, 2019. The limited-edition Super Deluxe box will feature the complete 29-song concert film in 5.1 surround sound and stereo on Blu-ray, and more than 30 minutes of bonus interviews with the band, in addition to four black 180-gram audiophile LPs, 2CDs, a 40-page photo book, four band member lithos, and replica artist all-access pass and ticket stub from the original show. Additional products scheduled for release include: 4LP 180-gram audiophile black vinyl, limited edition 4LP color vinyl (each disc will feature a unique combination of splattered colors), Blu-ray and 2CD. Digital live album and digital live video will be available for preorder on May 31.

Speaking about Live from the Artists Den, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil said, “We were very proud and excited to document the performance of our new material from King Animal, and to celebrate with each other and our fans.”

On behalf of the Estate, Vicky Cornell said: “This live show was really special, and I know how much fun Chris had that night. The idea of giving fans the opportunity to experience it in its entirety is something I’m proud to share with them.”

In advance of the album release, Artists Den will present Soundgarden: Live from the Artists Den immersive events of the full 29 song show in New York and Los Angeles, as well as an additional screening in Seattle. The stops in New York and Los Angeles will each showcase 12 HD camera angles customized for an immersive multi-screen viewing experience. A live remix of the original multitrack 48-channel audio in L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal Sound, a groundbreaking ultra-high resolution audio technology from L-Acoustics, offers fans the thrill of connecting with the band’s repertoire in vivid fidelity. The 360˚ real time mix synced to on-screen footage and further complemented by a stunning light show promises to immerse the audience in a truly unique experience, for one night only in each city. AMOEBA GIG:
Amoeba Gig is the first full length commercial release of Paul’s surprise free concert at Hollywood’s Amoeba Music on June 27, 2007. To date only four songs have seen wide release as the Amoeba’s Secret EP, two of which were nominated for Grammy Awards in 2008: “That Was Me” for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and “I Saw Her Standing There” for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance. A few years later in November 2012, an extended 12-song excerpt of the Amoeba show titled Live in Los Angeles – The Extended Set was made available free to PaulMcCartney.com premium members for a limited period. And come July 12, 2019, a full 21-song recording documenting possibly the most intimate L.A. show Paul has ever played will be made available to the public for the first time. The millions of people not among the luckier than lucky few hundred rubbing elbows with the likes of Ringo Starr and Woody Harrelson during that once in a lifetime in-store set will be able to experience those performances of Beatles classics “The Long And Winding Road,” “I’ll Follow The Sun” and “I’ve Got A Feeling,” Flaming Pie’s “Calico Skies,” plus Carl Perkins’ “Matchbox,” Jan Garber’s “Baby Face” and an emotional rendition of “Here Today.” Additionally, the LP will include an exclusive soundcheck recording of “Coming Up.”

Amoeba Gig has been newly remixed by Paul’s engineer Steve Orchard and will be available in configurations including CD, 2 x 180g black vinyl, and limited-edition color vinyl (LP1 – clear, LP2 – hazy amber transparent).

PAUL IS LIVE:
Recorded during the U.S. and Australian swings of the tour in support of 1993’s Off The Ground, Paul Is Live is Paul’s fifth live album. Originally released that same year, the album is famous for the multiple meanings and clues embedded in its title and cover art, all of which play on the “Paul Is Dead” conspiracy/hoax. In addition to a wealth of Wings and Beatles classics, covers of Roy Brown’s “Good Rockin’ Tonight” and Leiber and Stoller’s “Kansas City” and more, Paul Is Live also offers a peek behind the curtain: Three songs improvised on the spot and exclusive to the album, all recorded during rehearsals in various locations over the course of the tour.

Paul Is Live has been newly remastered at Abbey Road Studios and will be available in configurations including CD, 2 x 180g black vinyl, and limited-edition color vinyl (LP1 – opaque baby blue, LP2 – plush peach white opaque).

CHOBA B CCCP:
The live-in-studio Choba B CCCP (Russian for “Back In The USSR”) was released in the Soviet Union in 1988, making Paul the first Western artist to issue an album exclusively for that market. In a conscious decision to get back to his roots, Paul spontaneously spent two days covering his favorite hits from the 1950s. The sessions produced 22 songs in total (and one of the outtakes being a version of The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There”). Choba B CCCP was a deeply personal album and a way to acknowledge fans who had supported him and The Beatles since the start. “When I was very young I asked my dad if people wanted peace,” Paul explained at the time. “He said to me, ‘Yes, people everywhere want peace – it’s usually politicians that cause trouble.’ It always seemed to me that the way The Beatles’ music was admired in the USSR tended to prove his point, that people the world over have a great deal in common. In releasing this record exclusively in the Soviet Union, I extend the hand of peace and friendship to the people of Russia.” Choba B CCCP was released in the rest of the world following the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.

Choba B CCCP has been newly remastered at Abbey Road Studios and will be reissued as the original 11-track Russian release. It will be available in configurations including CD, 180g black vinyl, and limited- edition opaque yellow vinyl.

WINGS OVER AMERICA:
Rare #1-charting triple live album, Wings Over America is a document of one the most sophisticated and dazzling rock shows of the 1970s or any decade. Paul and the band would eventually perform to more than 600,000 people at 31 shows in the US and Canada, ending with three historic nights at The Forum in Los Angeles. It’s no exaggeration to say that the excitement that greeted Paul McCartney & Wings (Linda McCartney, Joe English, Denny Laine and Jimmy McCulloch) in the spring of 1976 as they embarked on what would become their one and only North American tour was overwhelming. Having released four consecutive chart topping albums — Red Rose Speedway, Band on the Run, Venus and Mars and At The Speed Of Sound – not to mention 1973’s Academy Award-winning James Bond theme “Live and Let Die” – Wings’ career was in full flight… and as Paul’s first U.S. tour since The Beatles, the sheer joy of both the band and its fans were off the charts throughout the 90 hours of recordings distilled into this triple album. Wings Over America was last reissued in 2013 as part of the Paul McCartney Archive Collection series winning the Grammy Award for Boxed or Special Limited-Edition Package.

Wings Over America will be available in configurations including double CD, 3 x 180g triple vinyl, and limited-edition color vinyl (LP1 – transparent red, LP2 – transparent green, LP3 – transparent blue) both come with original souvenir poster.

Surrounded by instruments, broken toys and a four-track recorder, Gomez recorded large parts of their debut album Bring It On in a garage in their hometown of Southport. To create its follow-up, Liquid Skin, the group would expand their horizons sonically and geographically, visiting America, an ill-fated English stately home & some of the finest recording studios in the world between 1998 and 1999.

There was no pause between Bring It On and Liquid Skin – the records were released just 518 days apart. “The first album and this one merge into one in a lot of ways. A lot of the tracks were written at the same time,” explains singer/guitarist Ben Ottowell. “There’s a song called “Bring It On” on Liquid Skin, which says it all really. They were made very closely together, so it seemed like part of the same process. We were constantly making records.”

As a result, writing and recording for Gomez‘s second album did not so much have a definitive start but instead it emerged out of the same creative energy as their debut, although it soon took its own distinctive path…

Gomez’s drummer Olly Peakcock commented:Liquid Skin was the step from the four track and recording in a garage to us accepting – in the most ridiculous way – that we were now doing music professionally. ‘Oh shit we somehow got our record deal, we are a band and we go to the studio now. We’re not going to be hacking it all together.’ There was an excitement because there were less limitations.”

“We were just using things we had access to… and for this album we had access to an orchestra! We just had a broader palette and we were getting more confident,” added Ben.

Going to Number 2 in the UK Album Chart on its release in September 1999, Liquid Skin not only justified the label’s faith to allow the band to work how and where they wanted, but it saw the British band crystallize their unique sound & grow audiences in America, Australia and other parts of the world, confirming that their Mercury Prize-winning debut was no fluke.

The new Liquid Skin deluxe 2CD will include 5 previously unreleased tracks, 4 previously unreleased alternate versions and 9 live tracks recorded at The Fillmore in San Francisco in 2000. There will be an accompanying remastered double LP release on black 180gm + a limited D2C transparent edition too.

The Super Deluxe 25th Anniversary box set edition not only features the album with bonus tracks on 2LP black vinyl, and a 12-page booklet with an in-depth interview with the band chronicling the era of the album, but it also contains 2CDs with a 26-track lineup that includes LIVE’s previously unreleased, eight-song performance at Woodstock ’94.

Initially released on April 26, 1994, Throwing Copper cemented LIVE’s position as one of the most instrumentally powerful and lyrically impactful bands of the modern alternative-rock era. Throwing Copper, which topped the Billboard 200 Albums chart a year after its initial release, also features a pair of No. 1 Modern Rock singles (“Lightning Crashes,” “Selling The Drama”) and has since been certified 8x multiplatinum by the RIAA, having sold over 8 million copies.

Produced by Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads) and recorded at Pachyderm Recording Studios in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, Throwing Copper built upon the earnest sonic template the tight-knit four-piece band from York, Pennsylvania established with their compelling 1991 debut album, Mental Jewelry. From the anthemic manifesto of “Selling the Drama” to the fervent declaration of “I Alone” to the unrelenting charge of “All Over You” to the emotional-rollercoaster journey of the epic “Lightning Crashes,” Throwing Copper handily reinforced LIVE’s drive to connect with their ever-expanding audience in as many ways as possible.

Throwing Copper is big songs, big feelings, big dynamics,” observes vocalist Ed Kowalczyk. “It was us taking the cart and throwing it way ahead of the horse, and we hoped the horse would eventually catch up. We had a ‘let’s build it and hope they come’ attitude.” Adds bassist Patrick Dahlheimer, “While touring for Mental Jewelry, the rooms were getting bigger, and I wanted our new music to fill those places and beyond. With Throwing Copper, I just knew it had to be more grand.”

From there, LIVE was on a clear roll, having scored a key slot at Woodstock ’94 on August 12, 1994, in addition to logging their first appearance on Saturday Night Live on January 21, 1995, and subsequently laying down an intimate nine-song set for MTV Unplugged on February 15, 1995 — all key signposts along the way for Throwing Copper‘s ultimate ascent to the top of the Billboard albums chart on May 6, 1995. “When you listen to it now,” guitarist Chad Taylor says of their notable Woodstock ’94 appearance, “the crowd is so loud, they literally overcome the sound of the band at times. It’s magical! As I was mixing the audio for this re-release, it was giving me chills. Because I realized it was the band is in its primal infancy — the true birth of LIVE.”

Without a doubt, “Lightning Crashes” is the galvanizing force of nature that took both LIVE and Throwing Copper into the next stratosphere. “Everyone in the band felt ‘Lightning Crashes’ could be a big single,” admits drummer Chad Gracey. “That was based on, one, the greatness of the song, but also, two, the way bands at that time would build to their album’s big ballad. We thought if we could get two singles out and then ‘Lightning Crashes,’ it could be successful and huge.”

Kowalczyk humbly recognizes how Throwing Copper continues to elicit indelible, deep-rooted feelings to this day. “The fact that these songs have become part of our fans’ DNA — that this album still matters to them and there’s still such an emotional connection — that is the real accomplishment,” he concludes. “All of the other things are great, that there are all of these trophy moments to reminisce about. But at the end of the day, the process and the journey and the music transcend all of those.”

You can catch LIVE in amphitheatres and arenas this summer as co-headliners of The ALTIMATE Tour with Bush. The ALTIMATE Tour got off to an early, rousingly good start with powerful performances from both bands at the Live Nation tour launch event at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12.

ABOUT +LIVE+:
+LIVE+, the multi-platinum band from Pennsylvania–Ed Kowalczyk (vocals, guitar), Chad Taylor (guitar, backing vocals), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass) and Chad Gracey (drums, percussion)–have sold over 22 million albums worldwide and earned two number one albums (Throwing Copper, Secret Samadhi). Their catalog is filled with such gems as “Lightning Crashes,” “I Alone,” “All Over You,” and “Lakini’s Juice,” which live on today as classics at rock radio. Throwing Copper—which is being celebrated in 2019 with a new deluxe 25th anniversary edition via Radioactive/Geffen/Ume–produced the band’s biggest single, “Lightning Crashes,” which was #1 at Modern Rock radio for 10 consecutive weeks. Throwing Copper reached #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually surpassed sales of 10 million albums sold with Rolling Stone honoring the album with placement on their list, “1994: The 40 Best Records From Mainstream Alternative’s Greatest Year.” Secret Samadhi (1997) immediately shot to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually went double platinum. The release of the platinum-selling The Distance to Here (1999) turned +LIVE+ into an international powerhouse and moved the band from arenas into stadiums. +LIVE+ has been and remains today a global concert juggernaut. The band released an acclaimed five-song EP in 2018, LOCAL 717, their first new music in over a decade.
