Syfy Orders ‘Child’s Play’ Series “Chucky” from Don Mancini!

Syfy has given a straight-to-series order to “Chucky,” a television series centered on the iconic killer doll from the original Child’s Play franchise, Deadline reports.

The most interesting bit of news is that the series will not only take place in suburbia, but will dive into the past of the serial killer Charles Lee Ray – thanks to a voodoo ritual, the killer was able to place his evil soul inside a Good Guys doll, resulting in the creation of Chucky.

“In the new Chucky television series, after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.”

Even cooler, franchise creator Don Mancini will direct the first episode!

“The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now,” said Mancini.

Hopefully we see the return of Tiffany and Glen/da!

The series, produced by Universal Content Productions, comes from the Chucky movie franchise creator/writer Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner as well as TV writer-producer Nick Antosca, creator of Syfy’s anthology series Channel Zero, and his studio-based Eat the Cat banner. Emmy-nominated Harley Peyton (Twin Peaks, Syfy’s Channel Zero) will also serve as executive producer. Mancini, who penned the film franchise, will write the adaptation and serve as showrunner in addition to directing the first episode.

The series order was announced Saturday during NBCUniversal’s presentation at the TCA Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, CA.

Rapper Dave and singer Capaldi lead BRIT Award nominations – Entertainment – The Jakarta Post

Rapper Dave and Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi lead the nominations for this year’s BRIT Awards with four nods each, in a new, slimmed-down list of prizes at Britain’s top pop music honors.

Both will contest the same categories at next month’s ceremony: male solo artist, best new artist, song of the year and Mastercard album of the year.

Dave is in the running for his single “Location” and the album Psychodrama, for which he won the Mercury Prize last year. Capaldi was nominated for his chart-topping track “Someone You Loved” and his album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.

Organizers have previously said this year’s show, the 40th in a series that began in 1977, will feature fewer categories, allowing for more music to be performed on the night.

They also said they would allow performing acts to “fully take the reins by encouraging them to create and curate performances unique to them”.

Grime star Stormzy is nominated for best male solo artist as well as for his song “Vossi Bop” and album Heavy Is the Head.

The nominees for male solo artist include Harry Styles, who first found fame in the boyband One Direction, and singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka. Both are also nominated for their albums Fine Line and Kiwanuka respectively.

Mabel is nominated for her song “Don’t Call Me Up”, and also in the best female solo artist and best new artist categories.

The other nominees for best female solo artist include singers Freya Ridings, FKA Twigs, Charli XCX and Mahalia.

Coldplay, Foals, Bastille, D-Block Europe snd Bring Me The Horizon will compete for group of the year.

The song of the year contenders also include Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s “I Don’t Care”, Calvin Harris and Rag’n’Bone Man’s “Giant”, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” by Mark Ronson and featuring Miley Cyrus, AJ Tracey’s “Ladbroke Grove”, Tom Walker’s “Just You and I” and “Dancing With A Stranger” by Sam Smith and Normani.

Competing to be best international male solo artist are Bruce Springsteen, Burna Boy, Post Malone, Dermot Kennedy and Tyler, the Creator.

Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, Lana Del Rey and Lizzo are in the running for best international female solo artist.

Singer Celeste has already been announced as the winner of the BRIT Rising Star award.

The award ceremony takes place in London on Feb. 18.

Harry ‘fast-tracked royal exit as he feared Meghan was on the brink’ | Entertainment Daily

Prince Harry reportedly ‘fast-tracked’ plans for him and Meghan Markle to quit senior roles in the royal family because ‘he was worried that she would have a meltdown’.

The couple announced last week that they were intending to take a step back from senior royal duties and live with financial independence.

Now reports claim that the shock news was rushed through because the Duke, 35, feared that his wife was ‘on the brink’.

It’s been said that the Duchess – who married Harry in 2018 – has found the ‘slow pace’ of Palace life ‘painful’ and that she has struggled to settle in the UK.

A source told The Sun: “The statement was rushed out and part of the reason for that is that Harry knew he needed to take swift action. Meghan has not settled in the UK and he knows that and wants her to be happy.”

The source added that Harry decided to move quickly during the couple’s six-week break in Canada over Christmas.

According to the insider, he feared that ‘staying in the UK for too long would lead to his wife having a meltdown’.

Ent Daily has contacted reps for Buckingham Palace for comment.

In October, the Sussexes filmed an ITV documentary, in which host Tom Bradby asked Meghan about life as a Duchess.

She told him: “It’s… it’s hard. You know? I don’t think anybody can understand that, but in all fairness I had no idea, which probably sounds difficult to understand here.

“But when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friend said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great, but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life’. And I very naively…

“I’m American, we don’t have that there. ‘What are you talking about, that doesn’t make any sense, I’m not in tabloids.

“I didn’t get it. So it’s, erm… yeah, it’s been complicated.”

William is said to be worried about his brother (Credit: SplashNews.com)

A palace insider told the BBC that Harry’s older brother, Prince William, was ‘worried’ after seeing the documentary.

William, Harry, their father Prince Charles and the Queen are reportedly set to meet at Sandringham on Monday (13.1.20) for showdown talks in a bid to rescue the situation and alleviate the crisis.

‘Chucky’ TV Adaptation Scares Up Straight-to-Series Order at Syfy – Variety

Syfy has given out a straight-to-series order for a show based on the iconic horror character Chucky, the central figure in the “Child’s Play” film franchise. The cabler made the announcement at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Saturday.

The news comes just under a year after Syfy first announced they had acquired the television rights to the films. The series hails from Don Mancini, who wrote the film franchise on which the series is based. Mancini will also serve as showrunner and executive producer in addition to directing the first episode. David Kirschner and Nick Antosca will also executive produce, with Antosca producing via his Eat the Cat banner. Harley Peyton will also executive produce. Universal Content Productions (UCP) will serve as the studio. Antosca is currently under an overall deal at UCP.

“The character Don and David created has terrified audiences for over 30 years,” said Chris McCumber, president of Entertainment Networks USA & Syfy for NBCUniversal. “The longevity and legacy of Chucky speaks to the creative storytelling and the loyal fans the film series has collected over the years. We are excited to once again partner with Nick and UCP on this new Syfy series, and are incredibly proud to bring Chucky to television for the first time with the original creators.”

In the series, titled “Chucky,” after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Chucky debuted in 1988 in the film “Child’s Play,” directed and co-written by Tom Holland, produced by Kirschner and based on a story by Mancini. The franchise spawned six sequels, all of which Mancini wrote and Kirschner produced. Mancini also directed three of the films. A remake of “Child’s Play” from a completely new creative team was released in 2019.

Twitterati share screenshots of empty ‘Chhapaak’ shows, Deepika’s film rejected despite leak

Deepika Padukone’s movie Chhapaak failed at the Box Office on its opening day. The movie had an ordinary opening of Rs. 4.77 crore, while Ajay Devgn, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior minted Rs. 15.10 crore on its first day.

The reason behind Chhapaak’s Box Office opening failure is touted to be Deepika’s clear stand in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) violence. #DeepikaPRBackfires had been trending on Twitter for the same reason. Audiences shared screenshots of Chaapaak screens going empty from various places. Lucknow and Varanasi, especially, witnessed not many seats sold out.

More so, Deepika has been tagged as the villain and Twitterati have felt bad that Chhapaak, which was based on Laxmi Agarwal’s life, is not getting its due because of the producer Deepika’s step. Many memes were made, and a user went on to share a still from the leak of the film. More so, this Twitter user went on to state that despite the leak and having free access to the film, there is no desire to watch Chhapaak.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Chhapaak is the story of acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The movie is also in troubled waters since it did not credit Laxmi’s lawyer Aparna Bhat even after promising her the credit. Delhi High Court has demanded the makers to give Aparna her credit in the movie and passed a restraining order on the movie which would be effective from January 15 for multiplexes and live streaming and for others from January 17.

Holy cone on a statue – Glasgow is to be transformed into Gotham City in the new Batman movie.

Scotland’s biggest city will play a starring role in Hollywood blockbuster The Batman, starring Twilight actor Robert Pattinson, 33, as the Caped Crusader.

The big-budget production will descend on the nation next month to shoot parts of the film on Glasgow’s streets.

Parts of the city will be made to look like Batman’s fictional home, giving residents a front-row seat for the movie.

Filming will also be the first opportunity for eagle-eyed DC Comics fans to catch a glimpse of the new Batmobile. Shooting for the film has already begun in London and filming is expected to start in Glasgow in late February.

A source said: “Glasgow will be turned into Gotham City and, with the city’s architecture, it’s expected to look great in the new film.

“It will also be the first time for DC fans to see the new Batmobile so there will be lots of them prepared to stand in the rain hoping they can spot it.

“Anyone who sees the Batmobile around town will probably look twice.”

Matt Reeves, best known for his work on the most recent Planet of the Apes sequels, has written and is directing the new film.

British star Pattinson–dubbed R-Pat by fans – is following in the footsteps of Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney as billionaire Bruce Wayne and his alter ego.

Irishman Colin Farrell has joined the cast as The Penguin, Zoe Kravitz has been cast as Catwoman, Paul Dano has been signed as The Riddler and Andy Serkis will play butler Alfred Pennyworth.

It’s not the first visit to Glasgow for a Hollywood blockbuster.

It was famously transformed into Philadelphia for post-apocalyptic zombie flick World War Z starring Brad Pitt in 2011.

George Square was the setting for the film’s dramatic crash scene, with extras dressed as US soldiers and zombies wandering the streets.

Last year, scenes for action thriller Fast and Furious 9 starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and Idris Elba were filmed in the city.

The Warner Bros film is expected to arrive in cinemas in June 2021.

Screen Scotland said: “Screen Scotland provides a confidential locations service to film and TV productions looking to film in Scotland. This means we are unable to comment on discussions about specific productions.”

Superhero franchise Avengers: Infinity War was filmed in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Highlands.

Filming for the £400million Marvel blockbuster boosted Scotland’s economy by around £10million and World War Z generated £3.3million in the 17 days it was filmed in Glasgow.

‘Chucky’ Gets Series Order At Syfy From Original Franchise Creators – Deadline

Chucky is coming to TV. Syfy has given a straight-to-series order to Chucky, a series revolving around the character at the center of the horror/slasher Child’s Play film series, the red-haired, freckled-faced doll possessed by the soul of notorious serial killer, Charles Lee Ray. The series order was announced Saturday during NBCUniversal’s presentation at the TCA Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, CA.

Your Complete Guide to Pilots and Straight-to-Series orders

The series, produced by Universal Content Productions, comes from the Chucky movie franchise creator/writer Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner as well as TV writer-producer Nick Antosca, creator of Syfy’s anthology series Channel Zero, and his studio-based Eat the Cat banner. Emmy-nominated Harley Peyton (Twin Peaks, Syfy’s Channel Zero) will also serve as executive producer. Mancini, who penned the film franchise, will write the adaptation, serve as showrunner and direct the first episode.

Syfy has been expanding the scope of its genre programming beyond sci-fi to other areas, including horror, most recently with the horror anthology series Channel Zero, created/executive produced by Antosca, on which Mancini served as writer-producer.

“The character Don and David created has terrified audiences for over 30 years. The longevity and legacy of Chucky speaks to the creative storytelling and the loyal fans the film series has collected over the years,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks – USA & Syfy. “We are excited to once again partner with Nick and UCP on this new Syfy series, and are incredibly proud to bring Chucky to television for the first time with the original creators.”

In the new Chucky television series, after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

The project had been in development at the network for over a year. “I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us,” Mancini said at the time. “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”

In 1988, Chucky slashed his way into the pop culture zeitgeist with the premiere of Child’s Play directed and co-written by Tom Holland, produced by Kirschner, and based on a story by Mancini. It spawned six sequels, all of which Mancini wrote and Kirschner produced. Mancini also directed three of the films in the franchise: Seed of Chucky (2004), Curse of Chucky (2013) and Cult of Chucky (2017).

Chucky joins Syfy’s lineup of originals including drama series Resident Alien, Wynonna Earp, Vagrant Queen, Van Helsing and The Magicians (premiering season 5 on January 15); late night animation block TZGZ; and fan-focused franchises produced in conjunction with Syfy Wire like Con After Dark.

Meghan was ‘on a mission to bag THE prince’ and RULE world | Daily Mail Online

I had no doubt whatsoever that Harry would fall head-over-heels in love with Meghan the moment she confided in me that they’d become close enough to go on holiday together for the first time. That was 2016 and I myself had fallen under Meghan’s spell, as everyone did. I was drawn to her warm personality, her comforting nature and her ability to make you feel as if you truly were the only person in the world who mattered.

I understood straight away she would mesmerise that broken-hearted young boy we saw following his mother’s coffin, and I was almost as excited as she was about her conquest.

Here were all the ingredients for the romance of the century. For once, the cliches seemed a perfect fit: lovely working-class girl meets the ultimate Prince Charming.

Confidantes: Meghan and Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne, in the days when they shared secrets. The business adviser met the Suits star in 2014 when she was introduced by another client and the pair became fast friends

Yet when I heard on Wednesday that she and Harry were planning such a drastic move as stepping back from their duties as senior Royals, I was not completely surprised.

Because I know from first-hand experience that Meghan is a businesswoman first and foremost – and in purely commercial terms this is an excellent time for her to pick up where she left off, building her career as an actress and a public figure. And if that means dragging Harry out of the Royal Family and into her world – the ‘real world’ as she would feel – then so be it. Yes, her decisions to move forward in her life can seem abrupt, even ruthless, to those left behind. It’s happened several times before, including to me. It’s only the speed with which ‘Megxit’ has unfolded that’s taken me aback. I thought she’d stick with it for a few years before she cracked.

I first came across Meghan in 2014 when she was introduced by another of my clients. Back then, she was still acting in the US legal drama Suits and had recently launched her lifestyle website, The Tig. I could immediately tell she was special, that she had star quality.

She described the actress as ‘razor-sharp – creative and meticulous with a good business brain’. The pair shared secrets about their personal lives until Meghan mentioned how she wanted Harry to propose to her. Gina explained how she must cope with the enormous expectations of the British public, the Royal Family and their courtiers but was dismissed

I became her commercial agent, helping her obtain endorsements and sponsorship deals with leading brands. She was razor-sharp – creative and meticulous, with a good business brain and an American entrepreneurial attitude towards life.

She certainly knew her own mind and was not afraid even then to voice her ‘woke’ opinions. I still recall her refusal to stay at a leading London hotel because, she discovered, it kept a parrot in a cage.

Meghan quickly became much more than a client. We fell into an easy friendship after only a few meetings. I had deep affection for her and was under the impression that she felt the same – she said as much. Believing that we could trust one another, we spoke openly to each other about our personal lives and she revealed much about her life and character. She valued my advice in both her professional and personal life and showed that she took real note of it.

I’m afraid, however, that I had real misgivings when I realised she wanted Harry to propose to her. I doubted whether Meghan would be able to sustain the unrelenting pressure of being Harry’s girlfriend, let alone – wonder of wonders – his wife. The moment she told me their relationship was looking serious, my enthusiasm turned to concern. For both of them.

It wasn’t just the media attention. I distinctly remember explaining as we sipped wine in London’s West End that she must cope with the enormous expectations of the British public, the Royal Family and their courtiers. Her reaction was to hold up her hand and silence me.

‘Save it,’ she said, in a steely manner I had not noticed before. ‘I don’t wanna hear it… this is a positive time in my life.’

At that moment I felt uncomfortable in her company for the first time. It wasn’t as if we hadn’t shared secrets before, but this time it was different.

Meghan has ‘a way of closing the door on the past’ when it is time to moving on in her life, according to the business adviser (pictured). She believed the ‘worldly-wise woman’ was on a mission to ‘bag THE Prince’ and found the her Tom Bradby interview, claiming she was ‘naive when friends warned her against the media’, was disingenuous

I didn’t know it then, but it was the beginning of the end of our friendship and professional relationship. She is a very ambitious woman and, when it is time to move on in her life, Meghan has a way of closing the door on the past, as she did with her father, her siblings, her first husband and with me.

I believed then, as I do now, that she was no ingenue, but a worldly-wise woman on the mission of her life, the mission to bag not any old prince, but The Prince! That’s why I thought it was disingenuous, to put it mildly, when she told Tom Bradby during their ITV interview that she had been ‘naive when friends warned her against the dangers of the media’. Meghan was a proper, grown-up woman when she met Harry.

She has also said that, being American, she didn’t even know who Harry was.

That made me laugh out loud – I know when nonsense is nonsense, and this was demonstrable rubbish.

‘We’re going to change the world,’ she had gushed in my ear, her eyes sparkling with steely determination. I took her to mean that they were going to RULE the world.

I am certain it has been her influence on Harry that is taking him away from his family. I don’t mean to say he has no willpower of his own, but he put it well himself: ‘What Meghan wants, Meghan gets.’

The pair enjoy some R&R with cocktails on the beach. Meghan ‘never showed any interest in British life and traditions’ during their friendship. In the Wild West of the commercial world, there will be none of the careful protection Prince Harry is used to as a member the Royal household

As Meghan passed by me in their carriage on her wedding day at Windsor Castle, I felt it was the moment she’d been auditioning for her whole life. But I also felt an twinge of concern.

I dislike forecasting doom, but my feeling was that she’d find it impossible to deal with the formality of being a member of the Royal Family. She would find it difficult to conform and her Hollywood worldview would be seriously challenged by the low-key, often repetitively dull work involved.

She wanted all the glamour and glory of being a Windsor, but I don’t think she was ever truly up for taking on the daily grind that came with it.

I don’t think she really understands the Royal world of altruism, history, tradition and low-key patronage for no personal gain. She’ll see Royal life as staid and stuffy. She certainly never showed me any interest in British life and traditions. Even with that said, I don’t think she could have dragged Harry away from his family unless part of him wanted to make some kind of grand gesture. But from what I’ve seen of them together, I’m certain she played a large part in the current crisis.

The Deal or No Deal star (pictured during a photo shoot at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, 2016) took her commercial adviser to one side and emphasised that she had ‘legs as long as a mile’, demanding that the agency do their best to secure a substantial offer to showcase this ‘asset’

Reunited: Meghan honoured her bridal gown designer during the The Fashion Awards 2018, while Waight Keller thanked the royal personally in her speech at the star-studded awards ceremony at the historic venue in Kensington, London

Everything she does is carefully curated and forensically planned. Harry has a choice – he can go along with her or she’ll sail on regardless.

In pure business terms, the decision to step down from Royal duties is correct, of course. I have no doubt that Meghan and Harry have the potential to earn money that would dwarf the allowances they received for being Royals. She knows what she is doing.

When we had to notify all of our clients in 2016 that Meghan was no longer able to accept commercial bookings, there was disappointment, especially as her profile was already substantially lifted due to her involvement with Harry. Now there will be unending demand for their time and interest, and the bulk will come from the States, where their contacts in Hollywood and politics – and their huge base of supporters – offer the best commercial potential.

Without a doubt, many of the biggest companies will want both Meghan and Harry as brand ambassadors: this is what Meghan and I worked on before she married Harry, and what Meghan was most keen on.

Before Harry arrived in her life, we worked on endorsement deals with Meghan for a number of big-name brands, including Swiss watches, body care ranges, lingerie, food, beauty products and so on. Meghan endorsed her own range of fashion for a Canadian company. Her ambition was to land a big contract with a cosmetic range, such as L’Oreal.

She took me to one side and emphasised that she had ‘legs as long as a mile’, demanding that our agency do our best to secure her a substantial offer to showcase this ‘asset’. Meghan is still relatively young, she is very beautiful, has a great natural flair and style and she is wise and has a strong character of her own. Her image is perfect for commercial endorsements and high-end fashion and lifestyle brands.

Meghan signing a guestbook at Canada House. The couple both appeared to be refreshed and in high spirits following their break

I doubt there would be a producer or casting director in the world who would not want her for a role in a movie, TV series, commercial or brand campaign.

Now she holds the title HRH The Duchess of Sussex she has a hallmark that no money can buy.

Even today, after three years of not working with her, we are bombarded with offers. She can name her price.

If all this is a dream come true for Meghan, Harry will have to be very careful if it is not to turn out to be a nightmare for him. In the Wild West of the commercial world, there will be none of the careful protection he is used to as a member the Royal household.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released this statement announcing that they will be quitting as senior Royals

Can Harry adapt to this new way of life, stepping away from everything he has known? The grass may seem to be greener on the other side, but that’s not always how it works out – as Meghan herself now knows.

Time is on his side. He will always be Prince Harry.

Meghan will be well aware, in contrast, that female celebrities have a limited shelf life and this might well be part of their decision to make such a seismic change.

The Royal couple hold their baby boy Archie during a photocall in St Georges Hall at Windsor Castle

What sort of money could they earn if they really did decide to exploit their full commercial potential? To put it crudely, they would command top dollar.

I know the market well. My agency, Kruger Cowne, represents clients for public speaking, hosting and publishing, but we also handle branding, television, music and much else. Many of our clients earn six- and seven-figure sums a year.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle watched Wheelchair Tennis at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada on 25 September 2017 – in what marked their first public appearance together

But Meghan and Harry could do that in a heartbeat, and go on to rival such internationally known figures as Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Beyoncé and the Obamas.

The saddest thing of all is that there is much to admire in Meghan, but I don’t think she has really paid attention to the human side of the Royal Family.

And the fact that Meghan still thinks she can revolutionise the Monarchy shows how little she understands the British way of life. The Royal Family has its own codes, its own magnificent history, and it’s going to take so much more than an actress from California to change that.

Meghan’s last email to me was to say that her life had changed and she could no longer pursue commercial work. She really wanted to remain friends, she said, adding that it was very important to her.

Alas, that was not to be: I’ve never heard from her directly again.

When, recently, I found myself in the same room as her, she pretended not to notice – stage-managing it so that Harry spoke to me instead.

Meghan has made a habit of ‘moving on’ to better things. And I doubt that will ever change.

Meghan ‘sparked row between Prince Harry and David Beckham’ | Daily Mail Online

Prince Harry confronted David Beckham over suspicions Victoria was leaking stories about her friendship with Meghan, a source has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex dealt with the rumours ‘head on’ and contacted David directly, a source said.

‘Harry was very polite, but obviously it was a pretty awkward exchange and David was mortified,’ they told The Sun.

The Duke of Sussex (pictured with Meghan on their visit to Canada House this month) dealt with the rumours ‘head on’ and contacted David Beckham directly, a source said

The friends agreed to put it behind them after the former footballer ‘put Harry right’, according to the source.

‘Afterwards, they got things back on track, but it took a few months.’

It came after the duchess and Victoria bonded over hair and beauty tips ahead of Meghan’s move to London following the former actress’s engagement to Harry in 2017.

It’s believed former Spice Girl Victoria befriended Meghan and gave her a list of ‘exclusive salons’ to visit, according to The Sun

Harry and David agreed to put it behind them after the former footballer ‘put Harry right’, according to the source. David and Victoria Beckham at St George’s Church at Windsor Castle for the wedding of Harry and Meghan in 2018

A Royal insider told the publication that the former Suits actress was ‘really pleased’ with her new found friendship and credited the fashion designer for helping her to settle into her new life in London.

The source said the pair ‘hit it from the off’ and were in ‘regular contact’ in the early days of Meghan and Harry’s relationship.

However the source added that not long after Victoria shared the beauty secrets, some of these emerged in print which made Meghan ‘furious’.

It is believed Harry, 35, and David, 44, got back to their former friendship after dealing with the matter yet it took a few months.

Prince Harry and David have long been good friends and worked together to secure the 2012 London Olympic Games. Pictured together in 2010 in South Africa

The former footballer and Prince Harry have long been good friends and worked together to secure the 2012 London Olympic Games and Harry asked David to be ambassador for the Invictus Games in 2018.

The Beckhams were seen at Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May 2018 however the pair were absent from the exclusive ‘evening do’.

Meghan previously admitted to being unable to wear Victoria Beckham dresses despite loving the designs, explaining that the silhouette didn’t suit her ‘short’ torso.

However at the royal family’s annual Christmas church service at Sandringham last year, the duchess was dressed head-to-toe in the designer.

The pregnant duchess wore a navy wool-blend midi dress by the former Spice Girl, which neatly hugged her blossoming baby bump.

Speaking in the past interview, Meghan, who is 5ft 6ins, said she felt her waist wasn’t long enough to wear certain dresses.

Talking about how she chooses her outfits, she said at the time: ‘What I’m starting to learn is, even though things look amazing on the hanger, it doesn’t mean they’re going to look amazing on me.

‘For example I love Victoria Beckham dresses, but I don’t have the long torso to support that silhouette.’

MailOnline contacted David and Victoria Beckham’s representatives and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment.

Revisiting George Strait’s Film Debut, ‘Pure Country’

Warner Brothers
Pure Country

Pure Country arrived in theaters on Oct. 23, 1992. It starred established country superstar George Strait as Wyatt “Dusty” Chandler; a singer overwhelmed by the surging popularity of country music. With a country music-dominated Super Bowl halftime show just a few months away and American culture’s love for cowboy hats and line dancers on the rise, the film’s themes of moving forward creatively without selling out made sense as Strait’s peers went uptown.

Over 25 years later, the film seems more like a straight-to-cable guilty pleasure than something that played on the big screen. Still, it’s not without its charm or its place in Strait’s legacy, as established by these talking points.

Predictable Yet Earnest

If you’re a sucker for Hallmark movies, you’ll see every plot twist and love story trope from a country mile away. In a story very similar to John Mellencamp’s 1992 film Falling From Grace, Dusty Chandler maneuvers stardom as a wide-eyed country boy. When the bright lights and thick fog of an early ’90s country stage show become too much, Chandler runs away from the spotlight, finding both his true self and his true love (Harley, played by Isabel Glasser).

The only food for thought to be found comes after Chandler’s manager (Lula, portrayed by Lesley Ann Warren) reacts to his departure by coldly putting an impostor on stage. It’s as if someone involved in this project might’ve felt that the Nashville machine swapped country singers in tight britches and cowboy hats on a dime when necessary. Plus, with crowds in stadiums so far away from the singers and the occasional case of a big name lip-syncer, it’s believable that this stunt might’ve worked in real life.

Otherwise, the story reeks of sweet sentimentality. Of course, Strait appeals to sweet and sentimental folks, so it’s no surprise that many of his fans prefer kicking back and enjoying a fun movie to nitpicking plot limitations.

Unsung Musical Guest Star John Doe

Chandler’s best pal and drummer Earl is played by punk and roots rocker John Doe. As a singer and bassist in the band X, Doe played a major role in early West Coast punk rock. The interest that scene drummed up in outside-the-box live music created avenues for Dwight Yoakam and others to be themselves out West without scaring off mainstream tastemakers. From X’s country music side project the Knitters to Doe’s Americana-influenced solo material, the punk legend knows his stuff when it comes to the Western roots of California’s country and folk legacy, making him a better musical match for Strait than some might assume.

Hardly a Critic’s Choice

Critics had little choice than to pan the film’s feel-good if not predictable storyline. The handsome singer-turned-actor lead’s encounters with shady business dealings and an eligible bachelorette drew unflattering comparisons to the cheesy films of Elvis Presley. Overall, the film nets a lousy 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes due to numerous negative reviews.

For the most part, critics hammer the script instead of the star. Be it an understanding of the challenges faced by a first-time actor or a undeniable show of promise, many of those same negative reviewers see Strait’s involvement as the film’s silver lining.

“If Strait weren’t so appealing, the movie would be easier to dismiss,” wrote Baltimore Sun film critic Stephen Hunter. “Let’s hope it does well enough to give him a second shot and that maybe he can find something a little bit less Las Vegas and a little bit more East Texas.”

Even if the film wasn’t high art in the eyes of many would-be Siskels and Eberts, Strait’s fans still don’t seem to mind. Its fan rating on Rotten Tomatoes is a hefty 91 percent.

Strait’s Best-Selling Album

While the film made just $15 million at the box office against its $10 million budget, the soundtrack was a smash success. With over six million copies sold, it’s Strait’s best-selling non-compilation album. Its 11 tracks make up one of Strait’s strongest releases, anchored by “Overnight Male,” “Last in Love,” “Baby Your Baby,” “The King of Broken Hearts,” “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” “I Cross My Heart” and “When Did You Stop Loving Me.”

The list of co-writers represented is staggering, including legendary television and film composer Steve Dorff, Americana legend Jim Lauderdale, country legend Mel Tillis to the Eagles founder Glenn Frey.

If the film was seen at any point as a means for Warner Bros. to sell albums, then it surely surpassed any goals.

‘Joker’ tops nominations for British Academy film awards | CANVAS Arts

LONDON — The film “Joker” has topped the nominations for the British Academy film awards announced Tuesday.

The movie about the origins of the comic book villain received 11 BAFTA nominations including best film, best actor for Joaquin Phoenix, and best director.

Martin Scorsese’s gangster epic “The Irishman” and Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” were close behind with 10 nominations each, including for best picture. Sam Mendes’ war film “1917” also earned a best picture nomination two days after winning that award at the Golden Globes.

The Korean film “Parasite” also is on the best picture list.

In addition to Phoenix, the best actor nominees included Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Driver, Taron Egerton and Jonathan Pryce.

The best leading actress will be chosen from among Scarlett Johansson, Saoirse Ronan, Charlize Theron, Renee Zellweger and Jessie Buckley.

BAFTA executives expressed dismay at the lack of diversity reflected in the nominations, which put only white actors up for the major acting prizes and have no women competing in the best director category.

“Being totally honest, we are disappointed, and that is not to take anything away from the people who have been nominated,” British Academy Chief Executive Amanda Berry said.

The nominees in the majority of categories are selected in a vote by 6,500 BAFTA members around the world.

The winners will be announced at a Feb. 2 gala event hosted by comedian Graham Norton, a past BAFTA winner for his TV chat show.
